grundog49's Phantom Draft

I think Witherden and Berry play in a similar style with Wittherden providing a role similar to Heath Shaw off half back which the Lions lack at the moment. SPP adds more midfield depth and Battle is there to become a third tall/foil for Schache in the future. Cox and Bolton are a bit risky that early. Gallucci and Clarke I definitely considered but was ultimately outweighed by SPP power in the midfield which you lack.
You don't think the Lions will bids of 53-65 on Watson and Allison. Defecit will be minimal if anything if at all

Yes I agree with this post ^^^, if my knowledge is correct, a bid for Allison would cost the Lions nothing because the pick he was bid on is worth less than 197 points, meaning they can just toss up their next pick, and Watson comes pretty close to being worth nothing also. I wouldn't see them using a national draft pick on Max Lynch after passing on homegrown players in Allison and Watson. You can lock Allison in as long as a bid falls out of the top 25 I reckon.

I haven't seen 1 Phantom Draft with McGrath going at 1 is McLuggage really that much better than McGrath Essendon picking McGrath would throw a cat among the pigeons
I've got mccluggage 3 or 4 in rankings so it's all eye of beholder

He's pure silk and class but he's not overly quick and OK contested ball wise ( partly due to his size ) , he's bl00dy good but for mine I got McGrath and Bowes higher and maybe Scrimshaw

Who knows what Essendon do , they might like setterfield and may get to keep him with a pick 1 bid

That would be an interesting position for the top 3 clubs GWS you think would pass on Setterfield if it meant getting McGrath and Lions would probably still draft Ainsworth at 3 meaning MCluggage dropped to Suns at 4

Jack Graham at 52 surprises me, in the All Australian team and winning the MVP of the championship comes from pedigree with his old man being an SANFL footballer
Footskills is a big issue for him and has dropped him down the rankings.

I think Ainsworth and Berry is the way the Lions would hoping it fell you would think as both bring leadership which is something we're desperately missing not sure Witherden has that
From talking to Witherden I think he can be that leader you wish for. High quality bloke who leads by example and focus' on whats best for the team.

Well done mate. Just a heads up that Melbourne will only use two of our picks in the National Draft though. :)
For the draft I assumed that all list spots left over are going to be filled by draftees. Makes the draft more interesting.

My favourite phantom draft from a Fremantle perspective. Those first 3 picks would be a dream come true, I also really like Liam Ryan.
I'm pretty sure Freo only have the 5 main list spots, so I'd have us taking a ruck, possibly Olango, at 67.
I'm assuming all list spots will be taken by draftees. I know this wont happen but it makes the draft more fun. Liam Ryan wont be leaving WA due to homesickness that is rumored to be there. Rowan Marshall is a more immediate impact ruckman then Olango so there is depth when Sandilands retires.

Nice work but with the Saints 3rd pick (61 ATM) they wont need to another medium sized defenders, got a shitload of them atm.

More inside mids with speed & skill needed, then a key position forward for the future, but mainly midfielders, midfielders and MIDFIELDERS!
Hinge is actually quite raw and is groomed to be a medium forward at the next level. Could also become a midfielder as his body fills out.

Too much risk. Connor Ballenden and Jack Clayton are top prospects for 2018. Lions will want to get those two big time.

As I said I dont think they will risk missing out on Connor Ballenden next year. He's got marquee forward written all over him!

What risk they find points for next season by trading. Watson and Allison wouldn't cost much with 20% discount
Ive just been informed that the deficit is in the round of the bid at the next draft so you could accommodate them in you draft. Will update in a week when I have some more rumours

Ryan seems the biggest reach at 20. Would rather hope he slides to our next pick (if he doesn't so be it). We need some speed, we have 3 reasonable picks, we need some outside class with speed.

Heard a lot of whispers that Sydney are really interested in Ryan at 20. Duman and Burt are classy players and can take a run with the ball if required.

What's the reasoning behind why you think GC wouldn't match Scheer at 30?
GC would go into deficit and with some strong academy players coming through the ranks next year, I dont think they would want to risk missing out on those players.

Really hope not then. If we want Ryan at 20, then surely we take Florent at 9. If we don't get speed in this draft I'll be asking a question of WHY! It was our one weakness. In a midfielders draft surely it makes more sense to not reach for a KPD!

Not reaching for Logue.

Cheers. He's one of my top preferences along with Begley/Ridley for our pick. I have been holding onto hope that maybe GC wouldn't match as a way of levelling out the Prestia trade which I thought was a uneven haha

I hope he drops to the crows 3rd round pick, he could play next year. I dont suppose the AA selctors or those that chose the MVP of the championship thought his kicking was that bad to selert him for such prestigous awards

I'd rather do the same at 19/20 then. I see little sense drafting more than 1 KPD in this draft! Next years draft from absolute memory is chock filled with KPP. Why we are overpaying for one in a midfielders draft I have no idea.

We need genuine speed. Would rather Cox at 19/20.

Top effort.
Suns will definitely match that bid for Scheer, have 3 × second round picks for next year so there will be no hesitation.
