Would have been nice if GTA4 was released this week. Would have had the long weekend to play it, but now I got a stupid Business Law test this week, not to mention three pracs.

I went hunting around a few different stores to see if anyone was selling it, no luck.

Basically, if one store breaks the release date, then they all can. We just need to find one store that ____ed up so that we can get all the others to release it earlier.

Reports coming in that the PS3 version is superior to the 360:

There are just a little over five days left until the release of GTA IV, and this morning we bring you five news stories.

Firstly, this week IGN is running a "GTA IV week", where new content is posted everyday. Yesterday we already reported on the interview with the game's Art Director, Aaron Garbut, which can be read here. Last night they published an article detailing four of the game's multiplayer modes - covering Free Mode, Team Mafiya Work, Team Car Jack City and Turf War. Read that over here.

Yesterday we reported on the US edition of OXM giving the game a final score of 9.5/10, as seen here. Today we have news on another Xbox magazine, Xbox World 360(UK), who gave the game a score of 98%, saying the game has an "oscar-worthy dialogue", "unfeasibly rich gameworld" and "inspiring mission design".

Contrary to what many expected, it seems as though the PlayStation 3 version is selling more than the Xbox 360 version at certain large retailers. UK retailer ASDA is reporting that the PS3 version is selling three times more than its rival - the Xbox 360. Over in Australia, EB Games is reporting that while their pre-sales figures show both versions selling fairly close, the PS3 version is in the lead. Another retailer in that country, Gametraders, is saying the PS3 version is selling double than the Xbox 360.

Interesting indeed, I myself - who is a big fan of the Xbox 360 - will be getting the PlayStation 3 version, as I've read and heard personally from people who have played the game already that this version is undoubtedly superior to the Xbox 360. Granted, not as much that I would recommend going out to buy a PS3 console if you have a 360 already. Too bad that episodic content is Xbox exclusive, is Take-Two/Rockstar regretting that decision now?

If you live in the U.S. and have access to G4TV, then you can tune in this Sunday at noon, as the channel will be showing game play footage of the game. According to them, this will be the first place where such footage will be available to the public.

Rockstar co-founder Sam (no, not Dan) Houser doesn't know if the next Grand Theft Auto title after IV will properly fit onto the 360's standard-sized discs.

"One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It's a slightly bigger DVD disc," Houser told 1up.

Then take into account that not all Xbox 360s come with a hard drive. It's here that things get super sticky. "The 360 is going to have to get 'round this issue we're talking about...hopefully, they're going to adopt one of those in the next year or so, because it's going to become more of an issue. If we're filling up the disc right now, where are we going? It's not like our games are going to get any smaller."

Doesn't surprise me. I think MS will strike a deal with R* to to the 360 HDD, even if it means people who dont have a HDD miss out. Better than no game for the 360 altogether.

I think the letter is fake, but whatever.

And as far as the 360 vs PS3 version, all I have read is that Dan Houser said they are identical apart from the DLC, and that the 360 has a few more online features like seeing your XBL friends online under the cellphone, whereas the PS3 cant.

No way will a company allow a game like this to sell early and they would never send a letter out like that.... Its only 4 more days..... I don't see why people just have to be the 1st to play it.....

Can you confirm whether the drink driving is in the game?

Rockstar still won't confirm HOW the Australian version is edited and I have a feeling this is an aspect the Government would like chopped. However, if it's in and the only thing deleted is a cut scene, then I might as well get the Aussie version.

Yeah, there's a big load screen at the start, and then no more loading for the whole game. I think it's brilliant. I can handle one big loading screen much better than having a shitload of small ones.

Actually it is only a 5 minute load, although it isn't confirmed whether it is just for the PS3 or for both PS3 and 360.

Thats wrong, Houser said that both versions are different in their own special way, the PS3 version is smoother and looks warmer, but the 360 version is more vibrant.

Also the PS3 has it's own special features, like the optional use of the SIXAXIS to fly, drive, steer boats, and do other things such as reload and possibility of other options, also the PS3 will be getting it's own exclusive DLC.

AUSSIES BATTLE IT OUT FOR TOP OF GTAIV OZ LEADERBOARD
With the unexpected “accidental” early release of GTAIV in several countries, many Aussie gamers are battling it out for top honours in their Leaderboards. All working seemingly non-stop to acquire the next achievement to take them one step higher up the ladder.

It’s been a to-and-fro battle between on of our staffers (GrathiusXR), and other Aussie gamers. Who BTW, got his copy legitimately through DVD-Crave’s “accidental” shipping error, where over 20 odd people recieved their copies in the mail a week early. While DVD-Crave claimed just 3 or 4 copies were shipped, it’s evident that far more than that got shipped out of their warehouse earlier than planned.

Having the game a whole week early will give the 500 odd people world wide a chance to hedge their bets and get a higher place in the global leaderboards before the bulk of the games are released on April 29th globally. NZ will have first crack at it, being the first major country to wake up in the new day dawn, followed by Australia 2 hours later, then spreading across the globe and finally finishing in the West Coats of America some 19 hours later.

Naturally the “Official” release sales figures data will be marked on the US release time, as this side of the world rarely gets acknowleged as being the first off the blocks when it comes to world wide releases. Funny that. We were the first to get Halo2, Halo 3, BioShock, Gears, yet all figures and official data marked the US as the prime point of release. Hmmmm Yep, it seems no where else exists outside the big US of A.

GrahiusXR with 45/6 points is battling it out at the moment with the top five players, Baldalinger (65/4 points), Dominus Magnus (40/6 points), boredofsilence (35/5 points), DrunknMonkey84 (30/5 points) and Busta Chopz (30/3 points). Wit each tryingto out do the other and stay just that one achievement up.

We’ll keep you updated on the huge Aussie GTAIV Battle as the days go on, but make sure you zip back here early, as we hope to have a nice, meaty review for you right on the witching hour come April 29th (New Zealand-Time so that it’s nice and eary, but still legally on time hehehe)

Got mine on reserve, but if we're getting an edited version I might just cancel it and order one from overseas.

I think that it almost definitely will, but not for a while.
The game is inifnitely better on PC if you start modding it.

Only thing that sucks with the PC version is the control scheme. I have a good logitech controller for my PC (mainly use it for old SNES ROMS and such) but it still doesn't seem as fluid as the console versions (owned GTA3 and VC on PS2 and GTA:SA on Xbox).

Want to hear something really sad? Yesterday, after going to every single retailer within 15 kilometres of my house (some 15 different stores) - and failing to convince anyone to sell me a copy (I was so close at BIGW, teh idiots there didn't realise it wasn't meant to be sold until Tuesday, but couldn't find the disc and then asked a manager who pointed out it isn't for sale yet - bastardo) - I went and bought GTA:SA for PC instead, just so I could get a bit of a GTA fix before Monday night.

360 - the graphics crap on the other versions from a great height. I find this version funnier - esp the ads on the radio and u can watch tv in his room and there is a some tv show about rich celebs which had me in stitches.
