I think we're region 4 actually.

But as i said, that's video only.

NTSC 360 games will not work in Australian 360's, so don't buy one.

UK PAL versions, from the info i have been able to find, should work fine.

Ok, I did some research, the 360 is indeed region locked for both games AND movies. So region 3 titles won't work in region 4 consoles, even though they're both PAL.

http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/20/xbox-360-region-locked-for-games-and-dvds/

However, there are some titles that are region free (it's basically up to the publisher). You'd want to be certain a game is region free before purchasing it.

The PS3 is region free for games (and regardless of NTSC or PAL, games will work from any country, anywhere), and region locked for movies (however most BR titles are region locked in theory only - as 4 of the major studios don't lock their discs anyway)

That article says that the 360 region locks "just like they did with the original Xbox".

I haven't bought a UK game for the 360 but I did buy Brian Lara Cricket on the original Xbox from the UK and it worked. I'm almost certain it's the same for the 360.

Yeah, the original Xbox had some region free titles too, but it's still region locked. It would be a bit of a gamble ordering a game prior to its release without knowing if it's region free or not. I dare say GTA4 wouldn't be region free, considering they're quite clearly producing a seperate version for region 4.

Repeat Region coding (1,2,3,4,etc) is applicable to DVD-video only.

It is not applicable with gaming.

PAL is PAL, ntsc is ntsc.

Pal games will work on any pal console. The compatibility list you posted is for games that will work on both NTSC and PAL consoles.

From the article about the NZ censorship..

Australians will now have to import from Europe if they want to obtain an uncensored PAL version of GTA IV. Rockstar is yet to comment on what has been removed from the local PAL release, leaving many gamers quite frustrated.

I've never tried it personally because i don't like importing games, but skipping around the net its not hard to find plenty of examples of Aussies buying 360 games from the UK.

Pretty sure the 360 dvd's are region coded mate, it isn't simply a matter of PAL vs NTSC.

If that's the only thing missing it isn't a huge deal - but still, I'd rather have the whole game

In that case you should probably buy the 360 version. Exclusive DLC or a gun shoved up someone's arse....hmmm.

Well, officially the 360 is region coded. Some games won't be, but there's nothing to say GTa4 is region free.

Region coding DOES apply to games, always has (prior to the PSP and PS3).

It is not simply a matter of NTSC/PAL. I provided the link, did you read it?

I imagine the article you referred to was talking about importing the PS3 version from Europe, which would definitely work.

I did, not only was it an ancient article, it merely said it was region locked, which given the fact its a pre 360 release article, is more than likely referring to the non NTSC/PAL compatibility

Well, seeing as it was on a xbox 360 site thats probably unlikely.

If you look at any 360 region free compatibility list, like that on play asia, it'll list the 3 xbox360 regions. NTSC U/C, NTSC J, and PAL. You won't see any region 1,2,3,4 etc because it has no effect.

You're off the mark on this one mate

The article was correct, but I've misread it.

There are region locks on 360 games, but it isn't the standard "region 1,2 etc" I thought it was.

There are only 3 regions for 360 games, PAL, NTSC UC and NTSC J. So GTA4 should work with a european copy.

If you buy a DVD video in the UK it will more than likely not work on an aussie 360, as it is from a different DVD-Video region.

Games? No problemo

Rumours circulating that DLC will include whole new cities, as Rockstar have been saying that previous DLC's for other games include just small things like an extra car, clthing or something, but they want to redefine the DLC and make it alot more worth the money.

I think more an island than a city. Pure speculation, but a whole city is just too big. An island seems more feasible. That said, 2*10 hour DLC packs sounds fairly substantial.

I will buy it regardless of what it is anyway.

Island/City, same shit, different smell.

I am glad that there will be DLC exclusives for both consoles, how they will differ is the big thing, from what I read a while back the DLC would only be mission based, but now it will look like new Islands/Cities, plus cars, clothes, weapons and much, much more.

BTW 12 days...

11 now. The countdown is well and truly on in our household. Well, its on for me, the Mrs is worried I won't speak to her for 16 days!

Apparently there's a comedy club in-game, and you can watch real comedians perform routines, including none other than Ricky Gervais of The Office and Extras fame!

I can't wait for this game.

I just get the feeling there is gonna be so much extra stuff in this game we have no idea about....Discovering it is going to be half the fun (maiming, killing, looting etc will be the other:D)
