Balennon37 it might be an idea to update the players taken so we don't keep getting people claiming the same player & everyone can just go to the opening post to see who is available.

Strong 3 month bump.

Anyone with the time should put together a preview for their player.

Also still a few available, for those without time to do it every week or who lack motivation choose a player you think might get a game or two this year.

Pre-Season report card - Brad Green

Well, there isn't a whole lot to say about Greeny really. He is Mr. Reliable, Mr. Consistent, and now Mr. Captain.

Didn't do much for pre-season, but didn't need to. We know what we will get from Brad for most of the year. He might have the occassional quiet one, but 9 out of 10 will be honest, hard working, gut wrenching performances.

Once again this year he will be close to our B+F, he will go close to topping the goal kicking, and behind possibly Jamar, be close to our most important player - but that's what his consistency has lead us to expect.

I doubt the captaincy will be a burden to Brad at all, as he was our "spiritual leader" on the field already, and from his few media stints in the off-season he certainly seems to have held himself in good stead.

Expectations for the year -
Goals - 45+
Games - barring injury all 22
Brownlow votes - 10ish
B+F finish - top 3
I'm also expecting, with the increased exposure he will get as captain, that he will sneak in as AA this year.

Good luck Brad for the year ahead!

i'm more than happy to take strauss if no one has recently claimed him

EDIT* including a pre-season report for strauss

Strauss is a player who will continue to divide MFC supporters for a couple of years i think, he is very much a project defender.

He actually has had some solid pre season form, in the intra-club he was impressive, in adelaide he didn't do a lot (right or wrong) and against the dons he was very effective by foot but his pressure on his man was left wanting at times

with scully and jmac 2.0 out for up to the first 6 rounds, i think it could open up a spot for strauss on one of the wings, where he kicking skill could really be utilized aggressively (and obviously he could play with some more freedom)

i rate him, and believe firmly that we need to be patient with him... and i believe the club has a very similar view, considering they signed him on for two years despite only 2 games of afl experience

Expectations
10+ games
3-4 20+ disposal games
Bluey placing - no expectations of top 10
Brownlow - no expectations

Last years Adopt-a-Demon came and went with very little fan fare: This year, let's make it a bit different.

You adopt a player and become their 'Guardian Demon', you write reviews of your player from game to game and perhaps a reward can be organised from Deestroy for the person who does it best or a player vote system can be organised.

...it's late :P

It's only December so we can organise it further but for now just hold your horses, adopt a Dee and wait an see.

Where do i post my report??

In the players thread in the change room board & in here too I guess if you want.

Colin Sylvia - No 12

Pre season report card.

Colin Sylvia

I’m fortunate I waited to write this as when I started this my opening comment was going to be: “it been an uneventful pre season for Col, he’s done nothing stupid & has kept himself out of trouble.” Well almost, he managed to have a small stuff up just before the season started but at least it was really just a storm in a tea cup & I think the club wanted to be seen as proactive.

2011/2012 is a pivotal point in his career, he can either become the player we have all hoped he would become or remain a player with outstanding ability who never really made the most of it ala Travis Johnstone.

Expectations:

Col is in his mid twenties now & its time for him to step up & become a real leader both on & off the field. He can no longer be considered as a player with “potential” at 25 years of age he is both mature in body, mind & experience on the field, so now is the time for him make his mark on the competition.

What would be considered a pass mark?

20+ games
5-6 BOG’s
Prove himself a leader.

As for statistics I won’t comment because if he can meet the above 3 key areas of improvement the statistics will take care of themselves. If he can I can see him finishing in the top 10-15 in the Brownlow but the Brownlow is really of little importance.

I would also love to see him with the B&F, if he can do that then it bodes well for the MFC as onfield also.

Where will He improve?

I expect the improvement to come in the form of consistency. In the last two seasons we have seen glimpses of exactly what Col is capable of. If we look at his games against Hawthorn in 2009 where he got 37 possessions & kicked 5 goals or against the tigers in his first game of 2010 the he had 30+ possessions & kicked four goals he has the ability to tear games apart & if he was able to maintain that form for a season win a Brownlow.

Will he, who knows? What I do know is he needs to have a consistent year with a number of standout games. My idea of a pass mark would be for him to have 5-6 games where he is BOG, we know he can do it win, lose of draw we just need to see it. Along with that he needs to stay fit. This is the real key for him & I hope to see him play 20 or more games in 2011.

Pros:

Sylvia didn’t start the game on fire but as the game wore on he took on the opposition with a bit more confidence. For instance in the first quarter he took a mark 60 meters out & chose to kick to a 50/50 in the forward pocket rather than having a shot & the ball was turned over. In the third quarter I think it was he took a mark about the same distance out & took it upon himself to take the shot & drilled it through from 55 meters.

This could be looked at as both a pro & con but he hasn’t started the season on fire but was a solid contributor against the Swans without being the standout player on the field. I think this gives him a lot of scope to improve & coming up against the Hawks, who has played a number of good games against even when we couldn’t get within 10 goals of them bodes well for this week.

I gave Col a 6/10 but I was tempted to give him a five because he is capable of so much more but his game was just above a pass mark for someone with his ability & I won’t make him too hard this early.

Cons:

Nothing really stood out but I guess I’ll just take the opposing view of my pro’s. His impact wasn’t as imposing as it could have been, being the first game of the season it was a great opportunity to show some leadership & make up for his night out the other week.

Does he keep his spot?

Yes that goes without saying, the only thing that could keep him out of the team is breaking team rules again & getting suspended.

Is any other than two or three going to bother with this? ;)

Even if its a 2 or 3 line good bad & ugly at least we get something. I actually really like reading the reviews of others even if I completely disagree at least its another perspective.

If not I suggest that anyone can start doing game reviews for whoever they want other that the few that are doing it.

Sweet as, I was doing Ricky Bobby last year and seemed to be almost the only person doing it.
So I will do Ricky's every week in his player profile

Did mine on Jack Grimes a couple of hours ago, used your review as a template Crimson so hope you don't mind:)
I must admit last year I couldn't be bothered really, I had Jordie McKenzie and as much as I really loved his worked I found that there wasn't really much to say about him other than his defensive pressure in the midfield was good and he got a lot of tackles. So I think if a couple of people cover the on player there is a broader review of the player and probably a more correct(can't think of the word) review.

Pros:
Not really too many Pro's from Brads game. He didn't badly, but I did expect a bit more from him, especially his first game as Captain. Getting the goal at the end of the game that put us in front was a pro.

Cons:
Took a while to get involved in the game, but a fair bit of that had to do with O'Keefe I think. Possibly also some nerves from his first game as captain. I might be being a bit harsh on Greeny here, but we have come to expect a bit more from him, and I'm sure he will deliver that throughout the year.

Does he keep his spot?

Of course

No worries, I think I postend the template in this thread at some point too for others to use. It just makes it easier for me or I forget to put some info in my player review.

One thing i noticed was ever player review I have read gave their player a 6/10, I think that says a lot about our performance on the weekend, it really was just above average as a whole & we still managed a draw so that bodes well for this week if we can step up another level.
