Whats your thoughts on the Hawks picking up this guy in the PSD?
He isn't a great player, fairly inconsistent and doesn't really do enough for mine however he can be quite handy when the team is playing well.
We all know the coaching staff love the tough nuts, will they take a punt on this guy?
We'll have to take someone in the PSD for sure considering we have delisted, traded and retired 9 players.

Retired - Beaumont, Holland, Lekkas :(
Delisted - Kane, Greene, Scott, Nixon
Traded - Hay, Lonie

That's a fair bit of experience gone - Lekkas (180 games), Holland/Beaumont (179), Hay (149) and then Lonie (64), Greene (42). It's leaves us with a lot of kids after the national draft and I think the club good do with some experienced players in the side that are 23-26 years old.

I'd take him.

Inconsistent and unfit but worth a punt. WHen on song, he's a capable goalkicker (something we have few of). Has some mongrel too so Clarkson, Hardwick, Viney and co should like him. Can't see us doing much better in the PSD.

You're dead set gagging if you think Miller's better. Guerra can actually kick a football and land it somewhere near the intended place.

I thought your opening comments repeated above pretty much sums up my thoughts on this next to useless player.

Just one point, many players look good when the team plays well. We need guys who will stand up and play well when they team isnt.

Im shocked at how much attention this hack is getting. He had a purple patch, ironically when St.Kilda were flying last year, from then on, actually the rest of his career has been, well, poo...
Goes missing in big games, is a dirty sniper who is ******** weak when confronted too.
Dont even think about it Hawthorn...

I dont think we should even consider him for a couple reasons...He is a poor player who couldnt get much of the ball in a good team, imagine how much of it he would get with us? This blokes career is based on big hits and solid takles we need some one who can actually play. And he is also a small forward and our team are lacking talls we will just be going the opposite direction in selecting him we get enough defensive pressure in our forward line from buddy franklin i dont think we should worry about guerra.

Pies will pick him up with either a late pick in the draft or pick 2 in the PSD....Alistar Clarkson wouldnt pick him up anyway hes not looking for undiciplined players

He tends to be an "icing on the cake" type of player. If the Hawls were further advanced maybe I would look at him but I don't think he fits the Clarkson blueprint at present.

The thing is he can play a bit. Downhill skier? Yeah. Inconsistent? Definitely.

But given the weakness of the national draft this year and slim pickings in the PSD it might a choice of using pick 70 odd or taking Guerra. I'd throw him a lifeline. Won't cost us much.

settle down dude, he isnt getting attention b/c he is high profile player, its just not much quality is availible for the PSD, would you prefer hawthorn to get a hack that's had no experience??? He isnt the best player no, but he is young and clarko loves his tough nuts, i reckon damien and AC can teach him some discipline maybe???

We don't need Brent Guerra. All he would do would get himself reported all the time.

You blokes don't know ******** bout footy if u even consider drafting him.
Picking him up would be a step in the wrong direction
Waste of time

Don't want him personally, but we have to remember that Clarkson and Hardwick would know him pretty well from their Port days, so I'll trust their call.

Why is he a waste of time? Would it be better using pick 70 or pick 3 in the PSD on some young kid who is more than likely to be a hack or use it on someone who has played 96 games at 2 successful clubs. You don't get games for nothing at footy clubs these days.

If Clarkson and Hardwick think he's better than anything else available late in the ND or in the PSD, I say throw him a bone and roll the dice. Would he have to be given a 2-year deal or could the Hawks give him a one-year contract and a chance to show them what he's got?

Yes but he has been delisted by two clubs now! Not one, but two.
I just think if we want to go on to build a sucessful club and win a premiership and consistantly play finals football we don't need other peoples trash. We have done it many times before, if u can name one time when it has payed off in the long term, then let me know
How bout, Kingsly Hunter, Lance Picione, Mathew Dent, Simon Beaumont, Barry Young, Simon Cox, the list goes on..
Yes it would be better using pick 70 or PSD 3 on some young kid who the coaching staff think might have a bit of talent and potential. Think Clinton Young was not drafted at all last year! We could pick up another young with pick 70. If we a smart we could get a quality player with pick 70, although there is definatly a risk. But I would rather take a risk in the hope that it might pay off, then do something that has 0% chance of being sucessfull long term.
Like other posters have said, I am completely behind the coaching staff and I am sure they will make the decisions for the best interests of the club.

Great points Main Man.

He's (Guerra) has been DELISTED by TWO AFL clubs. C'mon what more evidence do you need.... if he was any good, 1 of those 2 would have kept him, they didn't because he isn't.

There is also plenty to support late draft picks that go on and be successful AFL players. Guys like 2003 pick 73 - Shane Tuck.

Guerra is a know commodity at AFL level.

Lets pick someone who is unknown and give them the shot.

Give him a go cant be any worse than Dixon in the forward line and he is much harder than him at the footy. He has played at two powerful clubs and would think that we could be in Hawthorns best 22. However if anyone is a good judge of character its Clarkson and Hardwick and i feel they will make the right choice.

Dixon kicked around 30 goals this season
Guarra kicked 15

Dixon played 20 games kicing 29 goals, Guerra played 13 including 2 finals were he saw hardly anytime not including the 11 other games he played coming off the bench. Would imagine Dixon played a lot more minutes than Guerra did. Anyway like i said Clarkson and Hardwick are a better judge than all of us nad will take him if they see a benefit in him.
