Just read the Guerra has been delisted by the saints, probably not entirely unexpected but he is a bit stiff.

What does everyone think about us picking him up?

Although he can be hot an cold, he is fast, strong and hard I've got no doubt that he is the best player available at this stage.

I am a closet Richmond supporter!

Not excited by him. Maybe if its a choice between pick 56 or 73 or picking him up in the PSD, I'd consider taking him.

But as a general rule I'd rather we drafted kids, and promote rookies.

Personally I think if he puts himself in the National Draft somebody will take him before we do, and therefore he wont go into the PSD. I'd be fine with that.

dont know much about the guy, except that he is a pretty good kick at goal! can i assume that he is as good a kick in play then?!

i have also heard that he is quick and tough(others have said he is soft)
If the first three things are true then why wouldnt we pick him up! i can't see anything else better in the PSD!

I've had enough with bickering and name calling internally. It's no different to trolling and if you do it again, then you won't be able to post here!

Would it be fair to say that Tony didn't share the same opinion as me :D

Never been a fan of Guerra, I'd rather promote and develop youth at the moment.

It wasn't that I disagreed with your opinion Morax, Figgy jumped on me because I asked who else you would prefer - but not in a very nice way, which I apologise for.

So, here I go again. Who else do you suggest that will provide more value that a 23 year old Guerra?

Superior options to Guerra:

Promote O'Brien
Get Baird from Brisbane
Pick 53 from the Shire of Best Available

Guerra is an out and out hack. Yeah, congrats to him landing a few bags in '04, but if we're using 2 years ago as a base for form, then we're flag contenders!

playing devils advocate here, but arent we retaining a hell of a lot of players on our list for their 2003 form. i would have thought two years ago was better than 3 years ago

I heard about Baird from Brisbane over the weekend. How did this rumour start?

PERSONAL DETAILS Name: Travis Baird
Guernsey Number: 46
Birth Date: 25 July 1986
Birth Place: Melbourne
Star Sign: Leo
Height: 189cm
Weight: 80kg

Something of a "smokey" pick in the 2004 rookie draft, Baird repaid the faith of the Lions' recruiting staff in 2005 with some outstanding performances in the AFLQ, senior elevation and a pair of AFL games.

The 19-year-old started the season playing in defence for the Suncoast Lions but it was during stints up forward and in the midfield that he really showed the talent that resulted in him being promoted to the senior list, when Martin Pike went down with a long-term injury. Baird was called up straight into the senior side for the Round 19 win over Hawthorn and kicked a great goal on the run from 45m with one of his early touches. He retained his spot in the team for the Round 20 trip to Sydney.

Hailing from the Victorian country town of Donald, Baird was considered highly enough by the Lions recruiting team for them to move away from the usual practice of rookie listing all Queenslanders. He had suffered an injury-interrupted 2004, which impacted on his chances in the National Draft, but can play in a number of positions, takes a strong mark, and is a well skilled on both sides of the body.

It started because of the fact he was promoted in place of Pike, actually landing a couple of AFL games, after doing extremely well as a midfielder in the AFLQ. He's either fallen out of favour pretty quick, or some other team's got in the kid's ear. Rumour is it's us and I've heard it from a few seemingly unrelated sources.

No problems Tony.

Who else would i prefer, maybe promote all three rookies who played senior footy this year. Imo we need skilled ball carriers and a quallity ruckman.

Don’t need to promote O’Brien. He’s already our player if we want him.
Baird I don’t know much about but how many decent players has LM ever let go?
Pick 53 will be a Hail Mary.

Guerra is no gun but we are soft and he isn’t. Already he has something we need.
He can kick straight. That will make one of us. Ok a slight exaggeration.

Basically he’s as good as any other option and for a soft list he's better than most. Why not I say!

I'm not convinced Mark
He has been cut from 2 clubs now - why?
Why is he one of the ones clubs seem happy to dump.

If the PSD is weak, why not pass on it?

Shane O'Bree - 2 GF's

Craig Bolton - Swans Premiership player

Des Headland - was alright as the 5th Lions midfielder, but maybe not that decent now as a main man at the Dockers

Blake Carrotseller - Mmmmm?

Actually Baird looks like he might be alright. He was offered a 2nd year as a Rookie, after being promoted for 2 games in 2005. The Lions might have been trying to be clever by thinking he would accept that, and they keep a promotable Rookie on their list (but not in their salary cap), but I think they outsmarted themselves. Only 19 and worth consideration

I'm not sure Port dumped him as much as he left. There are queries over attitude I believe.

I'm not particularly desperate to get him. What attracts me is his hardness and maybe a touch of mongrel that I think we lack. He can kick a goal and he can deliver a hit. We struggle with both of those. At 23 he is a good age and compared to a late pick he's probably a better chance to play any part in a successful side. If Harry was at the end of his second rookie year I might have a different opinion. It's just a matter of weighing up options and I see little risk with possible upside. The reality is the MM good bloke policy might rule him as it would have ruled out Darren Millane and Dennis Banks among many others that have played in premierships.

You haven’t convinced me. O’Bree is a half paced average skilled no impact player. I have no time for him. I was praying someone would pay a price for him in trade week. Bolton is ok but no more. Headland was a massive oversell for a player that played half a good season. LM would have laughed until he wet himself over the Freo trade. Blake was dropped for salary cap reasons for the second time. The two coaches that have let him go have 8 flags and a few runners up between them.

I’m not saying any or all of them are outright duds (actually O’Bree is borderline) but none of them are worth getting excited about.

If Baird is any good then fair enough. I've never seen him play.

I can't let you get away with this. Bolton is much better than 'ok'. Have you heard of RWO Mark? The posters there ranked him as our second best player of the year (Was one vote behind Kirk). I think Craig polled in all but three or four games - I.e, he was in our best five players in twenty games. He is better than ok.

Carry on... :)

You guys see him a lot more than I do but if I had to take players from Sydney he wouldn't be in the first dozen, probably more. Perhaps I underestimate him though.
