EXCLUSIVE: WEST COAST LEGEND DARREN GLASS will complete a remarkable about-face and return to the playing field in 2015.
The four-time All-Australian has answered an SOS from his former club, who are desperate for key defenders after reigning club champion Eric MacKenzie suffered a season-ending knee injury during the pre-season.
Glass, who had taken on a role as a development coach at Adelaide, was fortuitously retained on the Eagles' playing list for 2015 for salary cap reasons, and the AFL is expected to officially clear his return this week.
The former West Coast captain retired abruptly during 2014 due to injury, but said he was feeling "in tip-top shape" and was excited about a playing return. "The time off has really helped. I've kept up my conditioning thanks to Orbit fitness, and I'm confident I'll be able to perform. I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think that.
"I'm looking forward to helping out Mitch (Brown) and "Schoey" (Will Schofield), and hopefully being a part of a finals campaign".
Glass is not expected to play for the first month of the season as he returns to full fitness.
