I try not to be a pedant but cant resist in this case.
Decibel is a ratio not an absolute power level, and it is logarythmic as a previous poster indicated. Without a reference the number is meaningless. Any noise would be an infinite decibel gain over a theoretical absolute silence.
Safety levels for noise are measured in dbm's which is an absolute value referenced to 1 milliwat of energy. 3dbm would be two milliwatts, 6dbm's 4 milliawatts and so on, doubling every 3db.
The figures in this thread are accurate in quantity and 143dbm's would be eardrum bursting.
Not only earbursting, but the rush of air under the cubicle opposite the hand dryer really gets the wind up ya.... literally!!!

Pretty sure Seattle Seahawks had the record and there is no way any AFL games would come close to the noise they make at those games.

Have experienced Richmond sell outs, Anzac Day, GF etc and none come close to that.

Crows vs Collingwood Thursday night @ Adelaide Oval 2014 was the loudest crowd I've ever been in. This is the one when the siren couldn't be heard when Josh Jenkins kicked a goal on 3 quarter time.

The Phil Walsh showdown 4th quarter when Port were coming back hard was up there as one of the loudest crowds I've been in with the 'Power' chant ringing around the oval. This (along with the 2015 EF vs the Bulldogs) were the two most stressful and amazing games I've ever been to.

Who gives a shit..

There is still a footy game to be played and all this talk of one sided crowd etc.. All it will take is a few quick goals by Gws in opening 5 minutes and it will be a funeral service.

No need to get all culturally cringey about our crowds not being able to compete with NFL and world football. We have a great game with passionate fans, and that's all that matters.

When Richmond come onto the ground the noise will be tremendous, as will be the boos when GWS come on. Those boos will probably be the loudest boos an Aussie rules footy team has ever faced. Never before will a footy have played in front of 5,000 supporters and 90,000 opposition fans, so I guess on raw numbers it will probably be the most hostile crowd ever seen in our sport.

If Richmond kick the sealing goal or the final siren goes in a close one where Richmond get up, it would be a thrilling roar for Tigers fans.

loudest roar I have ever heard at a footy game was the 1993 Preliminary final Ess V Crows. Bombers 36 down at half time and the come back was on, when Mercuri put if through half way through the quarter it was the loudest roar I have ever heard, I think Mcavaney and Bernie quinlin even mentioned it was a hell of a roar.

Couldn't agree more. I cringe when people post that sort of crap "oh but that's nothing compared to bla bla bla (insert some international club, stadium or concept)" The MCG, Adelaide oval, SCG all have incredible and unique atmospheres. People don't realise how lucky we are to have these stadiums and our own footy code.

Actually I'm pretty sure most international visitors would be blown away by the atmosphere on Saturday.

AFL is never going to compete for noise with other sports for the simple reason that the arena is bigger, with a large open top, and simple physics will tell you that the sound from one side of the ground will have diminished before it reaches the other side far more than would happen at soccer or NFL.

Doesn't mean you can't have a huge atmosphere, but it wont be 'the loudest'.
