Still amazed no one has mentioned the Adelaide v Collingwood game where the siren at Adelaide Oval, the loudest in the country, wasn't heard by anyone in the ground at threequarter time three years ago.

Don't think it is possible

Not sure people understand how loud 142 decibels or an NFL game is
FYI - The Super Bowl is the NFL grand final. It's rotated at a different ground each year. I am an American citizen and have been to multiple SB's (Super Bowls). If you ever want to learn more about the game, just PM me.

Ive heard a few people recently quote the 2002 GF when Rocca seemingly kicked that goal as one of the loudest roars they had heard in football.
There were similar comments made about last years GF. It was my first so i have nothing to compare it against.

A melbourne club with heavy support playing a non vic team will increase the decathingies.

Wtf no chance, you'd have to design the stadium with this is mind. The MCG doesnt even have a roof.

And the AFL has way too big a playing area; the crowd density would be way lower than other sports.

Radio Birdman at the Oxford Tavern with the sport being "Bikie punch up" would be about 150dba (the ear bleeding/rupture zone) so sadly the MCG won't get near the Australian record. Whilst the crowds can be loud it is a controlled all round loud that you can hear in the park outside which is one of the great sound in the world but it wouldn't be much over 100dB

142dB is only possible if you have a Virgin Jet drop the ball to the umpires from 200 mtrs flying dirty... or someone takes out Toby Greene.

I remember in 2014 (first year of AFL full-time at Adelaide Oval) when Port were getting plaudits for the size and passion of their crowds, they had some official measurement of noise which would come up on the big screens. During breaks and certain times of the game they would encourage the crowd to try and break the world record. It was just as cringey as it sounds and fortunately we never saw that particular gimmick again.
They used to have the Power-meter, or whatever it was, up on the scoreboard screen out at West Lakes. And a bloke running around the boundary line with a microphone trying to get supporters to cheer.

Hilarious considering Richmond fans only turn up when they are doing well and those who turn up in the average days leave by 3/4 time.

Biggest myth in footy that tigers fans are somehow better and more passionate than other clubs.

We've been shit for 35 years..... and have 70,000 + members coming off a year we didn't make finals, and many tipped us for bottom 4, GAGF.

Edit: Last time the tiges got the wooden spoon, 2007.

Richmond crowd attendance (3rd) - Total - 909,203 Average - 41,327

For the record, Adelaide finished 8th that year, and came in at 7th for crowd attendance.

I try not to be a pedant but cant resist in this case.
Decibel is a ratio not an absolute power level, and it is logarythmic as a previous poster indicated. Without a reference the number is meaningless. Any noise would be an infinite decibel gain over a theoretical absolute silence.
Safety levels for noise are measured in dbm's which is an absolute value referenced to 1 milliwat of energy. 3dbm would be two milliwatts, 6dbm's 4 milliawatts and so on, doubling every 3db.
The figures in this thread are accurate in quantity and 143dbm's would be eardrum bursting.
Great scott!
1.21 gigawatts!!

I'll be disappointed if it isn't bloody loud. Melbourne vs Collingwood for Queen's Birthday was pretty intense towards the end. I also saw Richmond pinch one from Essendom late at the G in front of 70 odd thousand at the G in 09. Tigers fans maybe the loudest per capita. The crowd atmosphere is a great part of the game.

Talking of stadiums, Etihad with the roof on is like a reverb chamber with the sound bouncing all around.

Blair's tap in and the final siren on ANZAC Day 2012 were probably the loudest I've heard with my ears

I wasn't there but my brother reckons Goddard's screamer in the 2010 grand final was ear-bursting.
