Alas no. Barrybran, GWS Goose and myself got their way The board has come to the decision to part with coach Qris Qonnolly after a series of perplexing calls from the coaches box. The straw that is said to have broken the camel's back however was yet another loss to Roys FFC.
Qonnolly coached the Gumbies for 37 matches, winning 21 at an impressive win percentage of 56.8. However a finals record of just one win from five likely sealed his fate.

Round Three vs Roys FFC at House of Gumby.
We've been here before....
Another bloody close loss to the Roys. In rainy weather, we made a bright start kicking the first three goals of the match and jumping to a 21 point lead. From there though, the match was quite the arm-wrestle with both teams having random spurts of scoring. Unfortunately we left our last spurt too late after kicking a goal with 17 seconds left to reduce the deficit but without enough time in the wet for the winner. Pleasingly, again we had quite the even spread of contributors with beez, BlueE and GWS Goose particularly prominent.
Our coach was doing some very weird things again at the weekend with eDPS not being brought onto the ground while Dory_77 was sent to the bench after kicking four goals and looking like the forward to break the match in our favour. Except for eDPS, everyone had 60% or more game time this week.

This upcoming weekend we have a game milestone, with miggs set to play their 50th match for the Gumbies. miggs was recruited early in season 32 from the Bombers and has shared their time predominantly in the forward and back pocket. Let's get up for miggs this weekend against one of their former clubs, the Royals.

Round Four vs Gold City Royals at House of Gumby.
This round saw us invite the Royals to Gumbania and we enjoyed a pleasant match thread. Alas though, the match didn't go our way. We went into the opening change with a 7 point lead after a see-sawing quarter where Dory_77 kicked 3 majors. We extended the lead to 20 points mid way through the second when Barrybran kicked truly. From there though, we fell in a heap like an Aussie mens batting lineup in India....okay, not that bad. We conceded the last 5.4 of the quarter to go into half time 14 down and despite a burst late in the third quarter, the Royals held us at arms length from then on.
Dory, Rodney Dangerfield and StFly were our best this weekend with most others breaking even in a statistical shootout with our opponents (guilty!). Dory now sits fourth in the battle for the Fred Medal and at the other end, bone2468 played a good match at fullback in challenging circumstances.
No one got less than 48% game time this week but our interim AI coach made a couple of weird moves this week again. Next week expect plenty of team sheet changes which hopefully keep the sim gods happy.
Thank you to those who posted in this weeks match thread or in any match thread this season. We have a loyal group and your contributions are noted and appreciated.
Congratulations again to miggs who played their 50th match here in the cobalt, navy and white. We have another milestone to come this week- more on that later in the week.

bone2468 brings up the century!!!
On Sunday against the Bears, our mate bone becomes just the 23rd Gumby to 100 Sweet FA games. bone was originally recruited in season 29 for the purposes of a reptilian expansion bid. The bid didn't get up but bone stayed put and has become an integral Gumby. Not long thereafter, due to their Aaron Sandilands avatars, bone was confused with a former member of the Furies in Bastyy. Bastyy has sailed away into the Sweet FA sunset while bone has continued leaving Sweet FA opponents quaking.
Primarily playing in defence, bone will be venturing to the other end of the field this weekend and you buggers in the midfield better kick it to them a couple of times! Speaking of mids, it might be time for GWS Goose to reignite their campaign to gave a medal named after you. Or, at the very least a limited edition boner pin.
Folks, please raise your glass for bone who is having one hell of a week.

Round Five vs Las Vegas Bears at the Stadium in the Sky.
Seeking a win after dropping consecutive matches, we travelled to Las Vegas. On arrival we were reminded by the Bears' captain tony that not everything stays in Vegas but to enjoy ourselves nonetheless. We heeded the message but thankfully left our losing ways behind winning a thriller. Our second half was the difference kicking 9 goals to the Bears' five.
On a statistical front, DenieD finally got some love from the sim playing a stats-heavy ruck rover game. Also prominent were CatToTheFuture, Brick Loosener and making the most of just 60% game time, Supercheapgiants. Dory_77 kicked another 5 to jump to the outright lead in the Fred and Aucklander had a profound game from the half forward flank including kicking the sealer with less than a minute on the clock.
No one got less than 47% game time this week with less weird moves made by the sim.
Congratulations again to bone2468 who played their 100th match here in the cobalt, navy and white.

Round Six vs West Coast Wonders at the Colosseum
This week the final word is unpublishable on this site.
Neither team scored for the first five and a half minutes of the match, and sadly, that's as good as it got.
18 points down at quarter time and we needed a quick start to the second quarter. Aucklander duly provided after six seconds only but it was to be our last goal for the half. The Wonders piled on the next 7 to take a whopping 56 point lead into the half time break.
The third quarter was a more even affair after qoach came to the stunning realisation that to kick goals, your full forward needs to be at full forward! Dory_77 and NSWCROW were making the best of limited opportunities while GWS Goose was playing a starring role.
In the final quarter we were hoping the Wonders would tire and we may be able to claw the margin back to something more respectable. We were wrong. Those Wonders extended the lead beyond 12 goals a couple of times in that last quarter and we were flattered by the margin. Again, Goose was prominent as was Supercheapgiants who played a fantastic match as the super sub.
Statistically, Goose, Aucklander and Supercheapgiants were our best players. The half backs did their best in trying circumstances with ossie_21, bone2468 and StFly all having a fair bit of the ball. beez was the unlucky player stiffed by the sim getting just 26% game time with AJMLaird getting only 44%. The rest of us though spent most or all of our time on field.

Round Seven vs Fighting Furies at the House of Gumby
Back in the winners books, baby!!
Quarter one was a Gumbies pile on after we conceded the opening point. Dory_77 continued their excellent form kicking 3.1 in the opening quarter as we went into quarter time 32 points up. The second quarter was more of the same, with Dory also kicking our next two to have five of our seven to that point of the match however late in the quarter there were signs of life for the Furies as they clawed some of the lead back late.
The third quarter was a tense affair with the Furies cutting the gap to just 7 points at one stage before 307 games of experience (StFly) stepped to the fore and kicked a steadying goal. The last quarter was much like the first with the full forward line of rye, Dory and StFly slamming through scores for fun combining for 4.4 in the last.
Qoach sure was flipping the magnets with eight of us spending time on the interchange. Supercheapgiants was sadly screwed over by the sim getting just 10% match time (but still managed a hit out and a free against in that time like a good Gumbies ruck does).
Statistically, the midfield had huge games with Brick Loosener, Barrybran, GWS Goose and beez all shining. DenieD continued their recent rich vein of form and has probably had a few good weeks in the Mobbenfuhrer. Speaking of awards, Dory currently sits second in the race for the Fred medal. At the other end of the field bone2468, ossie_21 and CatToTheFuture played fantastically and were a major part of our win.
After the match thread of last round, it was nice to have a week of chats, bants and engagement. We have our first official bye of the season this week so may you have a nice freshen up and please make sure not to upset the qooty gods so we can have a big second portion of the season.
