Nah, he'll be on the list next year as insurance. If anything happens to Pav/Gumby then we're gonna need Bradley.

Exactly. Kep was averaging over a goal a game prior to doing his knee. if he can shed a couple of kilos over pre-season without compromising his strength it will improve his speed and reduce stress on his knees.

Anyway re. Gumbleton, all I can think is that Zac Clarke has a much nicer highlight reel and will probably not be on our list after next year if Pav and Sandi play on and maybe even if they don't. I really don't see Gumby as being better than Kep or Clarke, I hope I'm completely wrong though.
Luckily, you are completely wrong. :D There is no way in hell Gumbleton will be delisted if his body holds up. After Pavlich retires our Key forwards will be Gumby and Taberner and whoever we draft this year. We are still in desperate need of young developing talls.

Gumby is a significant improvement on Keplar as a forward.

Clarke is a ruckman and is not a good enough forward to take Gumby's spot. They'll be playing in the same team, not competing for a spot.

I note that Freo chose Gumby's highlights very selectively.

Their highlights reel demonstrates his ability to take uncontested/semi-contested marks in a relatively open forward line and follow it up with a goal - as opposed to showing his more spectacular hanging speccies or over-the-top congested pack marks.

Given Gumby's back problems, meethinks he will be under instructions to keep his feet on the ground wherever possible and win possessions by either using his height or leading into space - as opposed to attempting the spectacular go-for-broke grabs he was known for earlier in his career. Pav is the master of the well-timed bump in a marking contest and his body is in far better nick as a result so maybe Gumby can pick up a few tips from watching Matt.

On a side note, running hard and leading is how Tabs earns most of his possessions currently, which should give him far greater career longevity if he can keep that playing style up and make his impressive endurance work for him. :thumbsu:
Or maybe they didn't show his speccies because he didn't take any in 2013 and those are his 2013 highlights.

Gumby doesn't have back issues any more. They're fixed.

I meant to say Clarke will move due to a lack of opportunities. Anyway Im not against taking Gumby so much as interested to see what the flow on effects will be.

Clarke is signed until the end of 2015 and should play every game unless Griffin pushes him out, because I can't see anyone else being our second ruck

Gumby, Clarke and Sandi will play in the same team. Book it.

Pav and Gumby to rip it up in 2014!

Jade just so you know, I will be aiming to pick up Gumby in our Bigfooty Buddy/Sponsorship for '14 and will take good care of him. ;)

That reminds me, should set up the thread soon...
I could never get the blokes over the line on the Essendon board.

I kept voting though....

Freakin devastated. Knew it was coming, just love the bloke - be the only guy I'd say has been a 'favourite' player since Michael Long retired for me.

Could have been worse, A LOT worse. For a while there it looked like Carlton were having a look - I might have necked myself.

He is in safe hands, be happy.

Maybe you should consider a team swap... maybe one that is playing regular finals?

Why would he? Gone are the days Freo will play only one ruckman. Sandi too long had to carry that load. Two ruckmen with Gumby/Pav up forward will be the norm next season. Clarke did put on some serious muscle over last year's pre season (he was a rake and push over) and will be even better this time around. We need two tall forwards that can mark/contest allowing Mayne to take less pressure and the third defender.

Well a lot obviously depends on Griffin, but in any case speculation is with the interchange cap clubs are going to move away from playing two ruckmen. I think we look worse with two ruckmen and two key forwards, the forward press drops off a fair bit imo. But I guess if you are on top in the midfield that matters less.

It's all part of our grand master plan. Dope up to the eyeballs, take the punishment in a year we weren't going to win the flag and send out a team of augmented supermen to win the 2014 flag. :D

But just because that hurt....
