18 disposals, 10 marks and 2 goals in a side that got belted. Very pleased with his efforts today.

His disposal was shocking, but over all he was one of the few players that could hold his head up high.

The only good thing about your side getting pumped is you can zone in on a cuple of players and concentrate on them instead of they play. Gumblteon today looked really good. Got on his bike, lead well and was pumping out multiple leads. Great signs! We just need some class in the midfield to deliver it to him better.

Great effort. A real emerging player.

Never easy playing amid a complete rabble and he presented time and time again. a little more strength in those one on ones and over time, he could just be one of those guys thats near impossible to match up on.... Well, i'm hoping anyway.

Bad luck on today's game guys, but we owed you for last year.

Just wanted to say I was very impressed with Gumbleton today. Moves very well, particularly for being 197cm, and has good hands. Kicking may be a bit of a weakness, but his work rate around the ground was excellent. Good to see a bloke who's had so much trouble with injury finally showing what he can do. Hoping Rusling on our list can make a similar recovery from his persistant injuries, but it's looking unlikely.

Every Essendon supporter should be rapt with Gumby's game today. A great effort in a team that was pathetic. He obviously has a big engine and can take a grab. As someone pointed out, he's a Riewoldt type, not Tredrea or Jonathan Brown so any criticism of his strength is misguided. Will only develop more confidence and fitness as he plays more games. Well done Gumby.

Thought he was excellent today.

*Would love him at Colllingwood.

*If his career does not get ruined by injury!

I think he will become a star.

Really pleasing to see his game today. Maybe the combination with Neagle may have made a little difference today? Throw in Williams as that third forward?

This isn't Mr. Olympia, all he really needs is a strong core.
Spot on.

Riewoldt's still a skinny guy with broad shoulders; exactly the type of body Gumby has.

You can see it in Zaka as well, but these guys have a real weakness through the core, hips and legs.

That is the reason he gets brushed aside in marking contests, not because he has noodle arms.

He'll get there. If our midfield get their shit together, and our forward line gets settled, Gumby will be able to exploit his opponent with his strengths - agility, fitness and sure-hands.

Great game, from what I saw.

Happy with Gumbys game, definitly needs to work on his awareness and reading the play(such as running too far under the ball) but that will come in time good on ya Gumby :thumbsu:

Great signs and I am glad he is starting to take the game on.

Needs to take more contested marks though and to realise when he is in the goal square competing for a mark if he jumps off the ground no one will get near it (Refering to the incident in the second qtr where he stayed grounded and had the ball fisted away).

As I spent the second half watching from the bar, the one thing that kept coming back to me was, "Wow, Gumby is still presenting, finding space and leading to the right places".
Great work considering how easy it would have been to not bother at that stage.

Does he actually need to bulk up?
Yes

Gumbleton's progress is pleasing. It must be difficult to pick up the speed and intensity of AFL-standard (if that's what the Bombers played yesterday :o) after two years out, and without significant prior exposure to that speed and pressure.

He does seem to be waiting on the ball coming to him a little rather than really attacking it. Makes it easier for defenders to spoil.

One of very few minor shining lights yesterday.

Has missed two years of football but at least has a go and gives us something even if he isn't racking up enormous numbers at the moment. A lot of players playing yesterday could learn a lot from his perseverance.
