Pretty shocked that not one Oakliegh player was drafted after one of their best years in the competition.

Good article on Gwilt in the Age sports today. Sandy Dragons wanted him, but he wanted to play cricket during their pre season, so declined and played for Noble Park instead. I think this puts the choice in some perspective. The TAC system is the formal route, but not the only one.

Kel Moore is another example of this. He turned down the Eastern Ranges, played for Yarra Valley and got to Richmond via the rookie list.

You have to spend some money to be a good club these days in the higher leagues. True some players are on some money but you can have players on money and be a bad club.

Being at the club for two years now the thing that stands out to me at the club is how close the group is, from the senior players to the young kids.

Jimmy Gwilt came into the seniors this year and all the players gave him nothing but the highest respect and helped him along.

And for those that have played on him and rate him as not much that is your personal opinion but maybe give the kid a chance, he must be doing something alright to be picked up. The Saints are not doing this for the novelty value of picking someone outside the normal system.

I remember playing against Gwilt in the DDJFL, he was one of the best in the league back then but he never had a big head like some kids did.
