GWS and Gold Coast Finals? Where should they Be Played?

Should be home ground unless they think they can sell out a bigger ground. Which they can't given they struggle to at their current ones.

Only derbies would get the crowd required to sell it out and their lack of games at the SCG or the Gabba makes that really harsh if they've earned the home final.

Logical: at their home grounds, because they're home finals.

Reality: it's the AFL so nobody, including them, knows. It might well be at Adelaide Oval.
Id rather play brisbane at mcg than at gabba if we cant have metricon

Yes home qclash final at metricon if we were ranked higher.
Think again, not a chance the AFL will let 1000’s of fans miss out on an all Queensland final. As finals tickets are split 50/50 between the 2 competing sides Suns fans will miss out

This thread is important. Both should play at the biggest, most neutral venue in the state in the same way every other team in the league does

So the Gabba and SCG/Olympic stadiun

So what would happen in your scenario if

* GWS was host to Sydney
&
*GC was host to Brisbane

Noting Sydney Olympic ANZ Stadium no longer is suitable to host AFL games

What? 4200 members spots?

Thats a little out of date. Changed configuration since then. About 5k lower overall capacity.
So 37 v 25. Take away 5k. Closes gap.
Then very cheap and easy to add temporary seating of 4/5/6 k to metricon to get it up closer to 30k. Which can be done in a matter of weeks. Like commonwealth games but not as much (that added 15k).

West coast did it at waca in early 1990s

Cats home grounds:
GMHBA Stadium and MCG

Giants home grounds:

Giants Stadium and UNSW Oval

Suns home grounds

Metricon.

The AFL can force said clubs to play at any of these as a home ground.

Cats don't want to play the MCG stop playing there in the home and away part of the season.

They ask not to though.

Yep - they should play at the biggest, best venue in both cases. Gabba and SCG

It’s a pity there isn’t a better venue for AFL in NSW than the SCG and it’s definitely something the AFL should consider for the future.

Honestly a 20,000 crowd at the Gabba or SCG would look terrible.

If GWS build a big following over time and have a big final against a big club whose supporters are willing to travel you might consider SCG.

The issue hasn't been seriously forced with GWS yet, as state finals aside they've only played the minnow Bulldogs twice (despite some 2016 hype chatter), as well as a fairly long-odds West Coast. I'm sure if it was Collingwood or Essendon they'd probably have to do what they do when playing the local rival in finals (play somewhere other than Spotless).

The difference for GWS and GC is that they seldom play at the nearest grounds (Gabba & SCG). Stadium Australia has been off-limits since 2016 and can't be relied upon for availability. Given the tendency for derbies to double-up, they'll get one game at those grounds each year. They play at (even lower capacity) places like Manuka more often, or Townsville/Cairns as often. At least Geelong get a couple games at the MCG each year, much more familiarity.

At the moment I think the Suns would gladly accept a finals game in China.
