Just changed it about an hour ago. Had Phil Hughes as my av as a tribute:(

Reading posts from TheFreshBanana convinced me of a change to Swift:thumbsu:.
Yeah gee the whole Hughes scenario is just tragic!

But yes, Taylor looks good in a photo that's for sure!

It's funny because I agree with what you're saying but I guess that I don't view his time at Geelong as harshly as you do. It's fair enough, everyone is going to see things from a different perspective but I think that when you look at the time he spent at the Cats in it's totality that he did a great job over all.

2007-2010 were great (though 2010 could have been better). I was disappointed with 2008, but I don't blame Thompson for us not winning the flag as much as some people here do.

2004-2005 were good too. We weren't ready to take the next step at that stage and we finished where I expected.

2000, he took us to finals in his first year. 2001-2003, he was still building the team and, I will give credit for him for this. He blooded a lot of good youngsters, after the damage Ayres did, and turned them into premiership players.

I have spoken on 2006 and 2010.

Overall, I would give Bomber a high distinction. He is a two-time premiership coach, which is not to be sneezed at.

But he has faults like anyone. He was too loyal to players, and played premiership heroes ahead of the next crop of youngsters at times. My main criticisms are his ability to get distracted and go-off course (this didn't happen that often, but he let personal things affect his performance). I also don't think he is the most trustworthy person as a human being either, based on how he left.

Bomber Thompson, when on-focus, was one of the best around. But when distracted, he could send the team in the wrong direction, and I rate him higher as a coach than as a person.

I heard that GWS were prepared to give us pick 4, pick 7 or pick 9 for SJ. (I think those were the picks).

One of those picks for SJ= No.

I would only accept the deal if we got picks 4,7 AND 9 for SJ. I want all three top ten picks, or no deal.

That would then give us picks 4,7,9 and 10.

Imagine four top 10 picks? We would be moving on a veteran and premiership hero. But he has two or three years left, whereas the four picks could be 10-12 year players, and even if three of the four are superstars, it is a great deal.

One pick, no. Three picks in top ten, yes.

Hmmmm- tempting...
But what's SJ's worth as a future coach? And what would trading him out do to others at the club who have been loyal? Would we get a mass exodus?
Luckily we won't ever get that sort of a deal from anyone, so our club won't ever be tested in that respect :)
Could only get a couple of compo pics for GAJ, who had a huge upside- can't see us dealing higher than that anytime soon.
Yeah- I know they were different circumstances- but you know what I mean...

Remember Daffy going from Richmond when his body was stuffed. Got them good compensation and then retired, even said later he knew he was stuffed but wanted to do the right thing by the club he loved. If SJ is like daffy we might be able to scam someone.

Good idea and the Rascal might be up for a bit of trickery but I don't think it wouldn't sit well with the boys. I just don't know how the club will convince him to retire, when the time is right. I hope we don't get a 500 page mega thread and a 12 month argument about what happened if he does get shunted elsewhere. :(
