Just saying......not happy!

The problem is, once they did that the AFL would bury them and possibly their publication - they would stop allowing access to players and clubs for interviews and the like and thats pretty much a death warrant for the media.

I still find it bloody ridiculous how one body can own and control absolutely every aspect of something that isnt branded directly under them - even back to country and junior level.

Its not a business its a dictatorship - the AFL pretty much says "suck it up or go follow NRL".

Yeah, clearly there is a massive gulf between current quality of Scully and GAJ

Because there is no way Scully is going to go to GWS and play like GAJ in his first year. And over the 5 year journey there has to be a doubt on that as well

So I think they didn't think about it enough. Probably 3 for a player like Gaz or Judd would be fair. Then 2 for Scully. 1 for someone like Mackie

I think the Doggies have most reason to feel shafted as they lost a player as good as Scully for only 1 pick

What you have to remember is that the Suns traded for what Ablett will provide their club in the future. Not for what he has already provided to Geelong.

The fact he's played 192 AFL games, won two premierships, won a Brownlow medal, and won all these other individual awards is irrelevant to the deal. The Suns are only trading for him for the post-age-26 part of his career.

Ho much would GWS give up for John Coleman? Nothing. Because he'd be useless in season 2012.

So unless Melbourne finish in the top two the year before they use their compo pick, they are effectively receiving greater compensation than Geelong did for Ablett. Is that right?

We both received the R1 pick that follows your natural pick in the nominated year. So if Melbourne and Geelong nominate it next year ..if Melbourne finishes below Geelong , the Dees pick will be worth more.

(Then again , it seems like every man and his dog will have R1 picks next year and R1 will be about 25 picks )
