GWS Mini-Draft

I think you are right. The way I see it, this mini-draft should favour those clubs who are ready to bottom out for a year or two, and therefore can afford to offload some good senior players.

Unfortunately for us, all of our currency is in our youngsters, and there is no sense in trading them off for unknowns.

Foley may be the exception, but may only be enough to get us pick 3 or 4. Apart from O'Meara, I don't know what the quality of the other 17yo's is like.

exactly right, our only players of real high value are cotchin, martin, lids and jack, and we cant afford to loose any of them. foley has some value, but not what GWS are after, foley is worth a late first round pick at best.

If deledio went I'd boo him for the rest of his career, let's look at J.Darling he was predicted top 3 before but look at how far he slipped. Let's hope o'meara gets injured and we can get him with our comp pick.

He tore his groin a few weeks ago. Unfortunately O'meara won't last past the 1st pick of the u17 draft.

Ok, I've just finished watching WA play SA for the 3rd time, we have to give up someone to nab either Grundy or Kennedy, both are pure class for such young kids, Grundy dominated with his tap work and around the ground work, Kennedy is explosive around the packs and has great finishing skills, O'meara didn't really stand out as much as these 2 to me.

Wow:eek::eek::eek: the RFC club team needs to bottom out in the next few years if anyone is unaware. Playing 22-24 year old ish spuds is code for not bottoming out!!!

Cotch and Co are strong enough to lead the list through the tough times!!!

If anyone is interested, 20 year olds and younger are young , ask Barlett and Watson what is young and what is old!! I am sure the baby bombers will tell you otherwise as well not to mention the Heppells etc..

Issac Smith is not doing what he is doing because he is young!!!

Huh

What does all that have to do with the fact we don't have much of value to trade for the kids in this mini-draft??

If you think packaging two or three 24yo spuds together vs one 27yo gun player from another club will get the job done, then I suggest you think again.

???? I never said it would,???

Why do you think I have been talking about Lids and JR???/

The thing is if you think Jackson and Foley will carry massive currency you are dreaming???:eek::eek:

You blokes are off your head... this "mini-draft" is designed for Collingwood.

They will be able to offer any of the following:

Beams
Blair
Brown
Dawes
Didak
Goldsack
Johnson
McCaffer
McCarthy
Reid
Toovey
Wellingham
Wood

They could trade two PREMIERSHIP players over to GWS for pick one and losing those players would not hurt them one bit. They have that much depth to their list, that they can throw in steak-knives that are actually credible, but internally not impact them one iota.

They'll then get another superstar to continue to top-up their success. We cannot compete with what they will have to offer - and they are gonna want to do it. They need to free up salary cap and cand do so by doing the "Caracella/Heffernan/Bumbfield" trick.

Watched every Rebels game this year, would be over the moon if we got him. GUN.

Yet on the other thread when i mentioned trading foley for him in a package deal no one would dream of giving up Foley. Kid is a complete midfielder.

Coz like our supporters our footy dept overate our players eventhough we have been the most unscucessful side in the past 30 years. I said last year we should off loaded foley for a first round pick but got shot down.
Remember we didnt trade B Holland for K Johnson when we had the chance? But we signed up Ben on a huge contract and the following year we traded our first pick for K Johnson (D Wells). In the end we got donuts from Melbourne for B Holland.
We wanted pick 24 from Port for J Shultz and they offered us pick 28, we said no. Year or 2 later we traded him for Mitch Farmer.
Last year this board was in meltdown, when we traded a skinny runt who couldnt make our team on a regular basis. It was like he was a multiple b&F winner.
We need to be ruthless at the trade table and if means we need to give up something good to get something we need to do that.

This definitely won't happen.

For starters it is the Swan/Pendles etc.. that make a lot of these good. Second, some are on the old side, Finally, as with Davis, why give up for something when you can get them for nothing as an uncontracted player, so instead of 6 from Colingwood, 6 from other clubs like GC etc...
