"ours".... how?

I suppose the question is how many of those kids would go top ten next year??

My understanding is that there are potentially eight picks in the mini draft that GWS will trade for established players.

I'm guessing that GWS have already agreed with Adelaide and Taylor Walker.

Tugga,

I believe the rule is there are 4 trades they have to make spread however they like between this year and next.

Not sure how it works on DDay, except I think clubs are choosing in an auction, which is complicated by GWS able to say 'no we don't like that offer, next player, anyone interested??'.

I'd consider these guys, Grundy's a dominant ruckman but would be a huge gamble at 17, O'meara for Foley, or alternatively a combined deal of Edwards, Tuck, Morton, McGuane and Thursty.. and Graham, that should do it 1 for 6 Hardened AFL bodies, you couldn't knock that back.

I thought Whitfield was one of the 17 yearolds? mustn't be.

I really dont know much about O'Meara but by all sounds of him looks like he is the best of the lot.

Even though i love nathan foley & believe him to be a great team player and a little gun,we really need to think is he capable of providing the typ of output he did 2 years ago and how often.

sometimes you need to give up quality to get quality and if we are serious about a rebuild this type of trade needs to be done.

I also wouldnt be totally against Foley+ 1 of connors,edwards,jackson,nahas,thursty,mcguane,moore,graham, & PICK

O'Meara & Yarran !

Look at the second rate players GCstarted their club with, Stanley, Fraser, that dude from North. GWS will want to stockpile as many AFL players they can get, They'd be just as useful as a bunch of VFL guys.

Hope you r right we got plenty of currency if they want average players.

If we want someone like O'Meara, we'd have to offer up our first round pick (if we're lucky, we might get some change), and it could well still be a good deal.

Obviously there is a lot of question marks about his development but at this stage, it looks like he'd be a very high pick in the 2012 draft. So the prospect of trading a pick around 10 this year for (call it) pick 3 next year could be a good deal.

Getting him for less that that (or getting more in return) could only happen if other teams are well short of that offer.

I'm not in favour of trading hardened bodies (if you can call Foley, Edwards such) for kids. Whilst I agree we need talent, we should save our useful trade bait for a mature ruckman, key word, mature. Drafting these kids, no matter how good they are, doesn't rectify our one biggest glaring hole. Further, having even less developed bodies in the side will mean we only perform even worse next year. No thank you.

Foley + Connors/Morton/McGuane/Edwards/Tuck/Thursfield/Jackson.

There's two relatively senior bodies. They're not all great players, but GWS are after guys with AFL experience who can compete, all those guys have shown they can compete at AFL level. Unless another club throws up something good, then I reckon we can make a decent offer with Foley + one of those other guys. Hell I'd throw Foley + 2 or 3 of the others if it meant getting O'Meara.

I believe it will all depend on how nathan foley finishes off 2011, if he has a good last 4 rounds could be enough to secure O'Meara on his own

And i would love to see Nathan Foley become the first captain & earn 700k a year.

Sheeds would be crazy not to take him & possibly Thursty as well

we wont be getting any of these players i wouldnt have thought, unless other clubs offer up nothing.

I think you are right. The way I see it, this mini-draft should favour those clubs who are ready to bottom out for a year or two, and therefore can afford to offload some good senior players.

Unfortunately for us, all of our currency is in our youngsters, and there is no sense in trading them off for unknowns.

Foley may be the exception, but may only be enough to get us pick 3 or 4. Apart from O'Meara, I don't know what the quality of the other 17yo's is like.

Brad Crouch for North Ballarat is rated number 2 i think behind O'Meara. If not selected here is tipped to go top 5 at a minimum next year.

Trading Foley could massively hurt the overall fabric of the group. This Omera kid "could" be as good as Foley or he "could" be better. The fact of the matter is however how would Brett Deledio look at the trading of Foley? Loyal servant to the club shipped off...he would leave for the Pies or Carlton at first chance.

I really don't think the upside of getting a kid like this is there because it ruins any harmony in the group imo.

In case you hadn't noticed, we don't exactly have a lot of established players, and certianly can't afford to spare the ones we have.

Even if we could, we'd need to trade players worth a mid-low first round pick...Foley and someone who can't even get a regular game for us just wont cut it.

If deledio went I'd boo him for the rest of his career, let's look at J.Darling he was predicted top 3 before but look at how far he slipped. Let's hope o'meara gets injured and we can get him with our comp pick.

Wow:eek::eek::eek: the RFC club team needs to bottom out in the next few years if anyone is unaware. Playing 22-24 year old ish spuds is code for not bottoming out!!!

Cotch and Co are strong enough to lead the list through the tough times!!!

If anyone is interested, 20 year olds and younger are young , ask Barlett and Watson what is young and what is old!! I am sure the baby bombers will tell you otherwise as well not to mention the Heppells etc..

Issac Smith is not doing what he is doing because he is young!!!
