GWS - Threat or fakes

I reckon they are our biggest threat. Strange as it sounds but I reckon some of their injuries help them - they are quicker and better balanced with only two of Cameron, Patton and Lobbe (and Dawson playing. Been saying for years they should trade Patton - good player but doesn't suit them. They look like getting Greene back by finals - a pest and maybe not the mega-super-star the commentators make out, but can be damaging with a few possessions. Scully is a big out but they have a production line of talented midfielders. Hate to admit it but Shaw out will be a loss for them.

Went to the game against the cows in Canberra and was like watching circle work - quick ball movement and not a whole lot of tackling pressure from both sides. Can't let them open the ground up as they move the ball quick when they get space
Should have read your post before I committed to the keyboard.
I forgot Greene and yes he’s a match winner on his day, but I would back Broad or Grimes on him.

The fact that most think they are a better team this year than last, despite the injuries is interesting.

Is there a fair argument that a list can only sustain so much talent before it becomes ineffective? The Giants do seem to be a better side this year based on a overall game style that makes them tougher or at least, more resilient . Is that because, much like our own team - they have been forced through injury to player lesser likes that embrace a specialised role?

Realistically, could they trade Patton, Tomlinson, Finlayson, Kennedy or even 1 of their plethora of mids for future draft picks - & realistically still be a better side next year based on internal growth and team balance.

The amount of riches they have been given is sickening, especially when you consider they traded away Treloar, Boyd, Adams, Marchbank, Wilson etc etc etc .

I am actually all for teams that have spent the better part of the last 5 years in the bottom 5 getting priority picks - how the heck are they meant to seriously rebuild when 1 team has fleeced the market for so long? Poor Carlton have spent the last 5 years overpaying for all their dregs

Best part of your post! :thumbsu:

We played like crap back in round 17, kicked horribly for goal, had plenty of players out. Corey Ellis and Bolton played FFS, they were playing for their season and we only lost by 2 points on their deck.

So I’m saying no threat. Would be like 2017 prelim.

We have to have a horrid day for us to be beaten.

They haven’t even got past the pies yet.

Can see them getting over the Pies.
Massive ask though coming to the MCG 2 weeks in a row against Big MCG tenants trying to get the job done.
If they did that would be outstanding. I can see them winning 1 (this week) but I reckon we would have way too much for them the next week

I believe their style is suited vs teams with less pressure. That’s where they look really flash. if we show up to play and bring our game to them then l can’t see them winning.

I hope we play them in the prelim and the media pushes the world record noise thing again.

Firstly I'd like to break it to shove up all the other big 4 supporters. But secondly the umps will s**t themselves all game and pay us all the free kicks.

GWS might make a granny one day but not if they are playing us in a prelim.

I think so. I think there is something about Aussie Rules that is not suited to all-star teams.

Every premiership team I can think of has at least one "cult hero". That player that neutrals call a spud and only fans rate - Paul Puopolo, Max Rook, Townsend, and take your pick from the 2016 Dogs or 2012 Swans (Marty Mattner, anyone?).

IMO, the best 22 for GWS doesn't really have any heart and soul players who know how to sacrifice their natural game to fill a necessary role for the team. They all grew up winning BoG most games and play like they want to win BoG. None of them know how to tag, or get more tackles than disposals.

But when a chunk of those 22 are out injured, the players who have seen plenty of NEAFL get opportunities - and their hungry! They'll do whatever the coach asks, and that makes them a more effective team, IMO.

I think they beat Collingwood this week but having to make the trip down again the following week up against an even bigger and louder crowd they won’t be able to sustain the intensity. I really think GWS need to be top four and win their first final to challenge for a flag. Perhaps next year.

They are only flying to Sydney though , won’t affect them at all not with a GF place at stake .
