Seriously. Barely beat Richmond today and if not for poor kicking the tiges would have been out of sight. We can't just assume it will be like other seasons where they storm home and make a run for the flag. It can happen but not on what we've seen so far. Will they do what they've done in other years and time their run to perfection? Or are the Giants a shadow of their former selves and will they keep up this mediocre brand they've been serving up for half a season?

They're stuck in the crap suburbs of Sydney, where nobody is interested. Move them to Canberra and get a decent support base for them

Or, get them out of Canberra, and giving them a fighting chance to actually build a decent support base in Western Sydney.

The AFL plonked them in a difficult area, then tied one hand behind their back by making them a part-time team. Time to focus fully on Western Sydney.

We are in a bad place with most of our stars aging. Backline still good, although Leek Aleer is dubious. The midfield staples we could usually rely on like Kelly and Whitfield have gone backwards with their effectiveness. Both those blokes would have to be amongst the most overpayed players in the game. Coniglio constantly injured and on the bad side of 30. Callaghan is good going forward but I regard Tom Green's output as not commensurate to his reputation.

Bedford in particular has lost his ability as an effective tagger. Monstered by Cripps the other week and Butters ran riot last night against him.

This.

"Western Sydney" club with the men playing some games in Canberra and the women playing games at Henson Park/Canberra - and not one in western Sydney.

Absolute joke. No wonder they haven't been fully accepted in the west.

Not this.

Firstly, they are not "crap suburbs", secondly they are hardly "stuck there" in any case - they are anywhere but.

Get them fully committed to the GWS area, not half-arsed (at best) like they are at the moment.

Whose brain wave I wonder was it to schedule a night game in Canberra, when it was likely to be freezing cold, against a low drawing non-Victorian team?

I looked for the crowd number. It's on the AFL site as "TBC". I wonder if they will publish the actual number?

western sydney is also a rugby heartland, is always going to be a hard market to break in. but the afl clearly dropped the ball on this with sending the giants all over the country.

i cant see why gws cant be like the storm, storm will never be a big market team in melbourne but they have a niche and enough support to have a decent rugby foothold in melbourne.

It's quite amusing how few actually know the area or how much it's changed. There are swaths of the west which are actually well to do and are reflective of middle Australia (with parts on the upper end) but the ongoing commentary is that it's all crap or disadvantaged.

It's not the third largest economy in the country by accident, with projections that it'll only grow.

Given the corporate environment here, it's more than capable of supporting two footy teams and if my observations are anything to go by, the recent sponsorship and partnership signings suggest that the club has reasonably strong corporate support which ultimately underpins a growing footy clubs financials. Even if the attendance isn't where we'd like it to be yet.
