GWS: Why so inconsistent?

What really needs review is our conditioning staff. Chronic problems.

Great answer. I think this would explain a lot, both about the long injury list, and some of the inconsistent performances.

Big time this. The difference between our best and worse is light years apart

Celebrate (drink, drugs etc). Performance not as good next week. Recovery and Injuries. Just guessing.

Our Rd 0 performance was poor and they were kicking goals out of their arse.

I'd definitely agree that Hawthorn played poorly that day.

But a big part of the reason why Hawthorn played poorly is because the Giants played well.

It didn't really come across on TV, but the Giants were really disciplined in setting up their structures behind the ball, and applying pressure on the ball carrier.

Combined with the narrower ground (which they couldn't stretch as much as the MCG), you could see the Hawks players visibly hesitate a number of times because there was no good option to kick to.

And then offensively, a number of Giants players did particularly well. Gruzewski and Stringer were great up forward. And it was probably Clayton Oliver's best match in two years.

If GWS consistently played like that, even with all the injuries, they'd be tough to beat.

But they don't seem to consistently play with that level of discipline and intensity.

I'm curious to know why.

And for us this seems to be happening regularly - so I would like to think that our coaches would have been analysing patterns and addressing them. Our inconsistency unfortunately seems consistent.
