Haddin

Paine has picked a bad time to be injured.

What's the story with him anyway? What's his injury and how long is he out for?

Last I heard he was going to start training again soon for a return sometime in December. It was more unfortunate all the wasted time he spent following around the Aussie team and rarely playing last summer which seems just stupid, has barely played in the last 18 months.

Actually his reflexes are his biggest weakness imo. I watched a couple of days of the Tassie v Vic shield game and his reactions were very slow(was sitting behind at one end) to a few balls. I also recall one which went for 4 leg byes(which I admit can be hard) that was only a slight glance of the batsmans leg which he almost stood and watched it go past quite close to him where even Hussey gave him a WTF look. Personally I would take Hartley over either right now given Paines lack of cricket over the last 2 years, from what I have seen seems to be a great keeper and solid enough with the bat.

So if this is all that matters now with keepers, like I said why don't we get blokes making even more runs and give them a few keeping lessons and throw them out?

I haven't seen him keep much but I don't think he's great behind the pegs either. Paine has looked better, and better than Haddin when he's kept at international level, but in all honesty, I'm not sure it matters who they pick as it's more about making a statement that utter stupidity and laziness isn't acceptable. Just to pierce the bubble that Haddin seems to be wrapped in.

That's wishful thinking though. He's not under the kind of pressure that I wish he was.

After playing that shot, Haddin should have done the right thing and walked the other way, straight out of the ground and into a taxi taking him to the airport and caught the first plane home.

The guy doesn't deserve to wear the baggy green again. He is a disgrace.

So let me see if I have this right:

We can't bring Wade (or any other Keeper for that matter) because he might do ok and jepordise Paine's chances of coming in once fit, so we have to continue with an out of form Haddin.

And people wonder why Australian cricket is in such bad shap at the moment.

Until it stops being a boys club, it will not challenge anyone.

What they should have done is flown Wade over for the injured Marsh, then alter the line-up to look like this.

Khawaja
Hughes
Watson
Hussey
Clarke
Ponting
Wade
Johnson
Harris
Siddle
Copeland/ Lyon (pitch dependant)

Moving Watson to three (or lower if need be) allows him to bowl more and not have to back up with the bat straight away. Hussey at four - don't know if I'm sold on it, but his form has been better than Ponting's lately, Punter would be more solid batting against the older ball at 6.

Alternatively -
Watson
Hughes
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Johnson
Harris
Siddle
Copeland/ Lyon (pitch dependant)

Which is essentially Khawaja replacing the injured Marsh, and Wade in for Haddin.

Instead, they made things worse bringing in someone that will never be a Test player.

Paine and Wade aren't on tour though...

It's amazing how quickly they can be on tour courtesy of an aeroplane. They don't travel on ships anymore you know?

Wade should be playing the 2nd Test full stop.

I think people underestimate how hard it'd be to perform after just suddenly packing up all your shit, hopping on a (LONG) flight, acclimatising to local conditions then playing like 2 days later. Keep Wade here and start him up in the NZ tour.

I'd certainly considered that rhaz but I'd send him anyway. Cricketers are constantly travelling and playing now anyway and he is currently in good form. He should be able to handle it without too many problems.

How long is the flight? It isn't like going to England or the WI (via England or LA or wherever). They fly in and out and all over for their T20 contracts.

The biggest point however is the message. This guy is in form - we're picking him. You are playing like crap and without a semblance of pride in your performance - piss off and let it be a lesson to anyone else who isn't showing some pride in their position in the Australian team.

Not much can be done in South Africa now, issue is Haddin will keep in the 1st Test back here.

I will rage if Haddin gets a 50 in the next test and is kept in the side for the NZ series.

The main role of the keeper is to keep wickets. While Wade is getting runs, he drops more catches than my deciduous tree drops leaves in autumn.

Better still, he makes a 100 against NZ and then gets to go on the WI tour.

If he gets into team for NZ series he will make a score, then crumble like a pack of cards against India.

It's as much about making a stand and proving a point as anything - meaning Haddin doesn't play.

I don't care if we get Stephen Hawkings to keep wickets for us next Test - anybody but Haddin.
