I've been a fan of his in the past, but this Test should signal the end of his career.

The Selectors needs to make a statement about the type of cricket our side needs to play - throwing your wicket away twice with moronic shots, when your team is in trouble, is unforgivable.

Guys like Martin were dropped for for less - he's got to go.

i'm a fan, but he has been battling a bit lately and last night was an absolutely disgraceful shot.

A statement needs to be made!!!!!!

If Haddin ever plays another match for Australia after that, it is a disgrace!

I want someone who values their position in the team, especially for their massive pay packet.

I would hope that whoever the backup keeper is (Tim Paine????), as Haddin was walking off the ground the selectors were calling him up and demanding he hop on the next plane to South Africa. Haddin should have a flight booked for him tomorrow night!

I know others played loose shots, but his was just a disgrace.

I cant believe how Martyn was treated so badly by selectors, but look at the kind of guys they choose for the Australian team these days!!!!

Haddins shot was just absolutely ridicilous. Even if we're generous and assume he was 'trying to put the pressure back on SA with counter-attacking cricket' (as opposed to just being stupid), it was still the wrong way to go about it. That's a shot for the last 10 overs of an ODI, not the second day of a test where you're five for ****-all.

Win or lose, if this was a home series both Haddin and Johnson shouldn't be playing in the next test. But as it's an away test, we have to pick from our tour squad first right? Which would mean Haddin survies as we have no other keeper, but Johnson definitely needs a boot in ass (again). You could tell after about 3 balls in that first innings that he wasn't on. If Marsh's injury is serious enough, perhaps we could draft another keeper into the squad, drop Haddin and play Khawaja instead of Marsh.

I'll bet nothing happens to him. His place is pretty secure I think regardless of how many daft shots he plays.

That is arguably the worst dismissal I have ever seen under pressure.

I didn't mind Haddin when he started his test career but now I wonder if he is actually serious when he goes out to bat for his country.

After seeing such dismissals in this test, you could argue he isn't.

Wow, just saw the shot. lulz.

Anyone else think Hartley is the man for the job in Test cricket? Best gloveman in Australia, and not useless with the bat (albeit not as good a batsman as Paine or Wade)

Haddin will play the next test becuase we don't have back up, however he should be dumped and Paine picked for the GABBA test if fit, if not have Wade as back up. Wade is in great form with the bat making an 108 and 80 on not so batsmen friendly wicket last game against TAS.

Once again out batting has lost us a test match, ponting needs to be given the flick to and Khawaja in for the GABBA test to.

I don't mind Hartley, but I think Paine is definitely the man (or boy, seriously looks about 13 years old) for tests. Good gloveman and solid batsman who knows how to dig in and value his wicket (think his innings at Mohali), but can also play shots. I believe he's injured/only just back from injury at the moment though? Should definitely be starting the home series v NZ in a few months time.

Ponting must be running out of free-passes too.

I am a huge Ponting fan; but even I have to admit - I'd be telling him his position in the side is secure for this home Summer, anything after that is completely dependent upon how he's performing at the time.

Unfortunately, you're probably right - and it shows exactly what is wrong with the Aus XI at present.

Hohns or AB wouldn't have put up with that shit; he would've been axed instantly - and the rest of the side (and world) would've realised that we're serious about getting our position back as one of Cricket's best sides.

I'd be happy with Hussey or Hughes taking the gloves for the next Test - is Khawaja over there? If not, get him on a plane ASAP.

And Paine, pretty sure the finger he broke in that charity game ended up being pretty serious and complicated; they were saying on 5AA last night that he might be out until after Christmas?

I'm a fan of Ponting as well. But I would be only giving him the NZ series as a fair well. If he doesn't score runs his got to retire or be dropped sadly enough is enough we need runs.

Haddin has got to go. If Paine is still under injury cloud then let Wade fill in.

I think the charity game injury was this time last year, but he he-broke it while batting at Tassie training six weeks ago?

I'd be flying over Wade and saying farewell Haddin. I could probably have taken another failure here and given him one last test but that shot last night was the final straw.

You let a guy play because he was next in line, rater then the best keeper available and this is what happens. He plays as if he knows he isn't going to be dropped. Every test he has played for Australia the last 12 months has been a mistake, there are younger better options out there and he should not be in the side any longer.

But you watch, a bowler will be dropped for last night performance.

Me too, although is that allowed? Does anyone know if there's a rule forcing you to chose from your touring party first in a situation like this? Obviously if Haddin was injured then it's no probs, fly out another keeper, but if it's just an issue of form then doesn't that come down to the touring party you chose?

As poor as Haddin has been recently, this is just silly. Haddin was easily the best keeper available when Gilly retired, and despite being frustrating at times, especially with the gloves, he has had a pretty handy Test career. That said, this Test career is likely coming to an end, and I think we're all hoping it's sooner rather than later.

But you watch, a bowler will be dropped for last night performance.

That should probably happen anyway.

An absolutely disgraceful shot to match his poor shot selection in the first innings. His keeping is decent at best, so it's not enough to keep him in the side based on his keeping alone.

Needs to be dropped. Make Hussey or Hughes keep in the second test and then select a new keeper for the Australian summer. Stick a fork in Haddin, he's done.

I wonder how the new panel of selectors will see his work so far this test.

Has come in for a serve from Brydon Coverdale on Cricinfo, as well.
