Haddin

A lot of attention has been paid to haddin's dismissal yesterday, and yes it was a pathetic shot that just threw his wicket away when his team needed him to step up. But he's been quite average for a period of time now, and surely the next test is a prime opportunity to get a replacement in

TBH, even if he knuckled down and decided to grind out runs, how much would he have made, taking into account he can't play that way? Another 10-15 perhaps? Also, you wouldn't expect anything else but that rubbish from him anyway, we're stuffed if we're in a position where we need Haddin to hang on in the first place. What was more surprising, and worrying, for me was, under not much better circumstances, Hussey's attempted shot for his only ball!

Paine is the chosen one, I'd be happy with Wade but Paine looks to be a better batsmen although stats don't suggest it. Does anyone know when Paine is fit?

He said he hopes to be back for the big bash - ages away, sadly. I doubt the selectors would want to select Wade and him just go OK then drop him. In guessing they would want to give whoever an extended go.

The level of first class cricket is dropping, demonstrated my Smith and Hughes' scoring. It's been ****ed since they replaced the 2nd XI with Under 23s - awful decision.

Khawaja is the one who impresses me.

Given they are willing to throw anyone into the opening spot, why not someone with at least a defensive technique?

At least if Khawaja gets out for 25, he'll be able to defend for 100 balls and not expose the middle order to the new ball no.3/4/5 batsman.

Well in that case they must select Wade and give him the summer provided he isn't completely hopeless.

They can't just call in players as replacements because they want to drop someone. If Marsh stays injured they could call in another wicket-keeper I guess, but that's the only way. They choose the squads very bowler heavy. It's always about bowlers copping it if the team does poorly rarely the batsmen.

I always defended Haddin when he was averaging around 40 in Tests as he was a decent keeper but his days are well gone now and it's time to go. He should enjoy the 2nd Test as to me that will be it. He's not the only one either.

Another massive ****up from the completely inept w***ers at Cricket Australia :thumbsd:

I am 100% serious; give Hughes the gloves and have Khawaja open.

Screw it, we're a mess at the moment, this allows us to get two young bats in the team, we lose nothing anyway, and in 6 months, it will have helped both of them develop.

Then, if Paine is fit AND performing, or Wade is demanding a spot, give it to one of them.

We have different selectors now. The new lot will hopefully not have the same 'chosen one' policy as the old lot.

yes i know what you mean

its just a bit of a shame that because he's the wicket keeper he gets his place by default, because the squad numbers are largely made up by outright bowlers and batsmen. in an ideal world, he should be picked on merit and not because there are lack of alternatives. anyway it is what it is i guess.

This squad has 2 spin bowlers and 2 extra seamers in it. How bloody ridiculous is that for a 2 test series? The whole predication around the Aus squads seems to be about not making batsmen feel nervous about their spots. It's not working.

Why would you give Hughes the gloves? He hasn't done enough yet to consolidate a position in the best XI & he is not a first choice keeper for his state (not even second choice). You would be rewarding mediocrity & cheapening one of the most important positions in the field (if not the most important).

If Khawaja is to open, Hughes is the player to drop out & Haddin gets replaced by either Paine or Wade.

Paine and Wade aren't on tour though...

Because Haddin can not be allowed to play again and neither Wade or Paine are avaliable for selection.

Play Hughes as a wk for a one off test.

Nothing is going to happen to Haddin over this. He'll be supported by all the team in their usual bubble as he was just 'playing his natural game'. Clarke all but said that in one of his near-rants about the match.

I'm hoping Inverarity will have a different view.

Apparently they won't drop Haddin until Paine is fit. Apparently playing Wade would be undermining the position of the 'future of Australian cricket'. Crock of bs I reckon, Wade's doing more than enough to take Haddin's spot.

Surprised so many people want Wade in, I guess it is the t20 culture. Anyone who bothers to watch domestic cricket would see his keeping(which is improving) is easily the worst of the state keepers and is probably worse than Haddins who has copped it for his keeping. Sure it is expected these days for keepers to be almost on par with the batsmen but do people really want to risk a poor keeper, which as we have seen with Haddin can result in some poor drops at key times, just for a 4-5 more runs a game average? If it is as a lot in here think and it's all about their batting average, why don't we just tell Dave Warner to throw the gloves on as the keeping aspect is irrelevant?

Am happy and I believe Wade deserves to be the t20 and ODI keeper but with our limited bowling ability I want the best keeper behind the stumps over 5 days, be it Paine or Hartley as we cannot afford to miss chances when they come against the best sides. Haddin should be dropped ASAP and would be very disappointed if hes keeping in the NZ series.

I am not analyst of wicket keeping technique but he doesn't seem to let byes go, he takes catches, and has amazing reflexes.

Don't see a hell of a lot of him when keeping, but when I have I haven't noticed any real problems.

Actually his reflexes are his biggest weakness imo. I watched a couple of days of the Tassie v Vic shield game and his reactions were very slow(was sitting behind at one end) to a few balls. I also recall one which went for 4 leg byes(which I admit can be hard) that was only a slight glance of the batsmans leg which he almost stood and watched it go past quite close to him where even Hussey gave him a WTF look. Personally I would take Hartley over either right now given Paines lack of cricket over the last 2 years, from what I have seen seems to be a great keeper and solid enough with the bat.

and he's making tonnes of runs..

So if this is all that matters now with keepers, like I said why don't we get blokes making even more runs and give them a few keeping lessons and throw them out?

Haddin should have been sacked when he cheated against the Kiwi's in Perth 5 or so years ago - even more so after he defended himself when the video was clearly conclusive. He represents everything that is wrong with Australian cricket. Overhyped frontrunning flat track bully. He played the shot he did because he knows he doesn't have even 10% of the talent required to deal with a difficult pitch. Pea heart.
