If Wade struggles against SA the pressure will be on. Not from anyone with common sense, mind you. Haddin still has a lot of support from the boys club. AB, Junior and Henry Lawson all backed him over Wade as recently as yesterday.

Let's just hope Wade makes runs.

Wade hasn't been good enough to completely shut Haddin out.

With the gloves; still not convinced with the bat.

People forget how good Haddin was with the bat. Is still handy, too...if not erratic.
I could handle him in our national T20 or even one day side. But yes hopefully he is done for tests wise and allows the talented Neville to retain the job at NSW.

Paine's keeping is overrated. It is good, bit better than Wade's, but it is far from as good the way people talk about it. I rate Nevill above Paine but I don't think it will ever be viewed that way by the selectors.

One of the biggest sooky la la efforts I've seen after losing his Test spot. Should have been dropped ages ago when he raised dropping catches to an art form and couldn't get a half decent score with the bat.

maybe i missed something, but it seems to me he's handled it pretty well.
yeah i was just reading his quotes on cricinfo and he handled it well, still think he's done and should have been done after the home summer, he was on thin ice after his awful keeping and irresponsible batting in south africa and needed a massive summer but outside of a knock at the gabba he struggled with the gloves and with the bat and that was facing some of the lamest bowling you could ever face at test level.

No offence, but are we picking a wicket keeper or a specialist number 7 batsmen?
For at least the last 15 years, I reckon worldwide teams now pick the keeper who is the best batsmen - not the best wicketkeeper. I prefer the best keeper possible, and if they can bat great. That's clearly a very minority view these days though.

The fact that England played Geraint Jones ahead of Chris Reid at all tells you how much wicketkeeping excellence is rated.

That will be the key. Keepers at that level should be able to hold on to catches. But Australia need runs as well from a number 7, something they've only sporadically had since Gilchrist.
Haddin's first three years were 10 runs on average better than Gilchrists last three years. You can almost make the case that Gilchrist kept Haddin out of the team for one or two years too long.

Gilchrist (2005 Ashes - 2008) 30.21, 2 hundreds, 6 fifties

Haddin (2008 - 2011 Ashes) 39.68, 3 hundreds, 8 fifties.

Yeah but personally it's gone too far now. They expect a batsmen at 7, which means to me the top 6 aren't doing their job. I can't remember the last wicketkeeper who couldn't bat at all. Sure they may not be specialists, but most are reasonable these days.

Yes but none of that changes the fact that Haddin was shockingly out of form in his last couple of tests.

Agreed. That said, Haddin's initial few seasons were better than Gilchrist's last few, which doesn't fit with your claim that runs from number 7 have been sporadic since he retired. There's been issues for awhile.
