It's a thread about meat, and you're posting in it. I'm just asking why you are a vego.

People can eat what they want for all I care, but I just don't like the crap some people give me about why we shouldn't eat meat. Eating meat is perfectly natural - two people stated they don't understand how people can eat it, and there's your answer.

Personal choice.

I started the thread, remember? It's not as if my mentioning that I'm a vego derailed it.

Have another look at the thread. Who gave you 'crap about why you shouldn't eat meat'. You're making it up.

Well, it isn't particularly 'natural' to me. I feel no urge to change what has been a lifelong choice. To me, not eating it is 'natural'. I'm not trying to impose that choice on anyone else or even criticise those that do it.

No, but you saw fit to join in the vego discussion after someone else brought it up. And then went on the defensive.

Let's just go back....nope, I didn't say anybody here gave me crap reasons, did I? Read my post properly and find where I said anybody here mentioned anything like that.

Vegetarians in general...(and until recently I'd been living with one who was like this.) I said "some people". Not "some people here".

Well that's fine, as long as you don't go denying that humans have been designed to eat meat. Top of the food chain.

Actually I responded to your rather superior and self-important tone.

Sounds like something to take up with the people who do it then.

I'll happily deny that humans have been 'designed' to do anything.

Have a tofu samwich and a lie down.

Slaughtering by Halal is the fastest method of killing an animal.

It is quick and pain free.

Better than shooting animals with stun-guns..causing vessels to rupture, spilling blood into the body and allowing bacteria to grow.

I know that this guy is no longer around to defend himself against my criticisms of him, but I have to say that I am not convinced by his statement.

Rather than embed the following youtube clip, I will simply link to it. Note that you need to have a youtube account to view it as it is 'flagged' for viewing by those 13 and above.

I warn you that the footage may be disturbing for some viewers. I found it disturbing.

and with a harrowing avatar such as yours that must really be disturbing, that clown is evil man just evil

I don't read into this "we were made/not made to eat meat" argument. That would be assuming that intelligent design were a real thing, which it isn't. The cavemen were hunters and gatherers so they would have eaten whatever they could get their hands on, be it meat or vegetable. Humans haven't always had knowledge of cultivation and farming, so they would have starved if they relied completely on vegetables and fruit. So I guess we have evolved to be omnivorous.

Vegetarians who push their agendas on others can piss off. It's a dietary choice, you cannot expect everyone else to follow. I have no problem with people being vegetarian, vegan, whatever, but these PETA people who protest about everything are just attention seekers. I heard they were actually going to buy an old prison in the states and turn it into a "Lobster Empathy Centre"! Apparently they were going to use the cells to demonstrate how cruel it is to catch a lobster in a cage!

And don't get me started on people who claim to be vegetarian but eat chicken and/or fish...

wow that was truly disgusting...

Is this the Halal or natural way? Either way it's pretty ****ed up.

Sounds like you're familiar with BomberGal's work. Possibly the most condescending, self-righteous poster on this site. And from what I can gather, for absolutely no good reason.

I have to admit, I have a bit of a problem with the whole "my life, my choice what to eat" type of rationale. I (strongly) believe that we all have the right to eat (and, to a point, act) in whatever way we like...as long as we're not harming others. With others obviously encompassing both human and non-human animals. Just the same as we largely have freedom in our thoughts and actions, so long as we're not causing harm to others.

IMO, slaughtering defenceless animals and consuming their carcass for no other reason than it tastes good, contravenes that belief/principle.

And don't get me started on people who claim to be vegetarian but eat chicken and/or fish...

Agreed. One of my mates won't have it that, as opposed to a vegetarian, she is someone who does not eat red meat.

I'm a vegetarian, always have been since I was a little kid, mum couldn't get me to eat meat ......As an adult I cooked meat for my family, none are vegetarians...but I wasn't going to insist that hubby or kids become vego.....I ate everything they ate, except the meat part of meal...

No different to some people not liking broccoli, I don't like meat.....no big deal, and I don't make it so....

Purely a matter of like and dislike of a particular type of food..

Thats basically the normal way, some places do stun the animal enough that they are basically paralysed and feel nothing (sort of like free range chickens versus battery) the most disturbing part was the slaughter kicking blood into the cows face, yeah i know its an animal but respecting a living animal in pain would be nice

And with the bucther smell i was a butcher for 12 months, it took another 12 months until i believed i didnt smell of meat anymore. I used to shower before work, before i left work (so on site) and then again when i got home and **** me i still felt like i stunk of blood

I'm assuming you are a vegetarian, so you're probably going to completely disagree with what I'm about to say. I have my own theory about eating animals, based purely on their intelligence. The dumber the animal, the less guilty my conscience is while eating it.

For example:
Category A: Fish, crab, crocodile, any non-mammal water creatures. Simple, prehistoric creatures, so they are down the bottom of the list.
Category B: Cows are incredibly dumb, don't let their size and sad eyes fool you. Chickens and other birds also fall into this category.
Category C: Sheep, goat, camel, horse.
Category D: Pigs are intelligent, so for this reason I rarely eat pork. I would put dogs on this level too - even though they are less intelligent than pigs, they are social animals and smarter than sheep.
Category E: Primates. I don't eat any of these as they are super intelligent and deserve to be spared.

I don't want anyone blessing my meat. Mind you I wouldn't drink holy water either.

How come?

So if you were on a desert island, and had no other option than to engage in cannabalism, you would choose your next meal based on his/her intelligence?

Unfortunately a lot of people don't do that. And people make excuses for it, too... going so far as to mention global problems just so they can rationalise it.

I'd eat the most weak. And failing that, the one I like least. But I am confident I will never be in that situation. I would rather starve than kill a person for food. Are you really arguing that a solitary sardine is of equal value to a pig? If you had to slaughter one, which one would you choose?
