Toast Half-time 2025: Mid Season Appraisal

My appraisal: not great, not terrible.

We're doing some things well, but overall our games are almost unwatchable. Very frustrating that we are not quite right at this point of the season, yes we have some injury issues and suspension issues that have impacted our continuity, but we still look a fair way off being a good team.

Improvement across the board is required, I have no doubt we have a team and game plan that can compete well in finals, we're just not showing it yet.
What?

Mmm no, with our lowish percentage I think we will likely miss finals with 14 wins. We will need 15 wins to make the 8, and 16 wins for top 4.

Which means… We simply can’t afford to lose to anyone outside the top 8.. must beat North, StKilda, Melbourne, Port and Carlton. Have to also beat one or two of Fremantle, Brisbane, Adelaide (all of them interstate) and Collingwood. Gonna be a tough run home

We COULD miss finals with 14 wins. It's still unlikely though, because it would mean every single favourite has won every single game for the remainder of the season, which just doesn't happen.

Just need to win the ones we should and that should be enough. Snag a few others and top 4 isn't out of the equation.

Might also be in the minority, but for a young side, wins and losses are the major factor in how successful a season is perceived to be IMO.
There's a world where we win 14 games, finish 9th, and I still consider it a good season. I don't think anybody has ever missed finals with 13 wins before, let alone 14. Would be bad luck due to the evenness of the competition more than a failure on our part.

Collingwood missed finals last year with 13 wins but it is very rare (due to how shit Norf, Richmond and Wet Toast were last year skewing the ladder) and I don't think anyone has ever missed with 14 wins before.
