Karl Marx was a man that believed strongly in freedom for both the individual the the human species. Marx himself said that the value he admires most in a man is "to fight" and the vice he detested the most is "servitude".

Karl Marx defines a communist society as one in which the working masses have direct ownership and control of the means of production and where commodity production has ceased and the economic law of value no longer rules over economic production.

In the opening chapter of capital Marx defined a socialist society as follows:

"imagine for a moment, an association of free men, working with the means of production held in common"

Communism is about workers co-operatives and direct democracy. Societies like North Korea are the complete antithisis of communism, producers are alienated from both the means of realising their labour power and the commodities they produce, the working class have no direct say in how society is managed and there is no direct democracy, the economic law of value production still holds, commodity production is still dominant and goods are not distributed according to need.

North Korea is not socialist or communist, it is state capitalist.

Not what I expected here but well said! Some alternative editorialising!

Wht astounds me is that SAINT NICK got a free kick for a little touch on the back in a major final and Barry cops that all day

Be fair and make it equal to all, plus if a player is trying to make himself better why not help the process not hinder it:thumbsdown:

Sickening isn't it

S(cum) Thompson tells The Age that he nearly passes-out from Bazza's stranglehold. If you are looking to start a fight, don't come out crying like a little girl afterwards when they retaliate. Low act by the Kangawhoos. A scum side that resort to that crap when they are down 10 goals to zip! Even the likes of Leigh Matthews and Dermott would shake their heads in digust!

IMO Baz will cop 2 weeks for the strangle but a fine for the wrestle. They'll attempt to appeal on the basis that he was provoked like Des Headland but might not be as successful as Headland.

Emotions aside, Thompson is doing whatever he can to get the better of his oponent on the day. He does that week in, week out. The flaw lies in the point that he cannot be an effective full back without this mentality and behavior, which overall makes him a relatively average full back at best.

There's been a ton of fullbacks over the last 20 years who not only had the skill and class, but didnt need to resort to that level to "try" to get the better of their opponent.

What a weak dog Scott Thompson is...if there is any justice, that little sqealing squib will be rubbed out and Barry let off. Unfortunately we all pretty much know that justice won't be served. Hopefully the AFL brings in the "Barry Hall" rule for future reference and gives him some protection. It's a joke.

The Swans were crying out for protection for Barry Hall for years, but it fell on deaf ears because of the incompetents at AFL headquarters. That "protection" will be forever for the idiots like Nick Riewoldt. Let's face it, he was protected with the staging rule wasn't he, and he admitted staging in Round 1? ;)

Yeah too bad that "Dictatorship of the Proletariat" thing seems to stick around for such a long time

Marx's use of the term "dictatorship" is completely different from the recent 20th century usage of the term in association with tyranny.

By dictatorship of the proletariat Marx refers to the concept of the majority class having a direct voice in how society is run. It is essentially another term for majority rule and the dictatorship of the majority class over the minority. In a word communism is proletarian democracy.

In North Korea there is no dictatorship of the proletariat- the working masses do not have direct control over the state and society. Instead a ruling bureaucracy of scumbags controls the surplus value produced by the workers and exploits their labour-power, it is essentially a form of state run capitalism.

If you want to see how the true dictatorship of the proletariat would look like, turn your attention towards the Paris commune of 1871. It was the first time the working class took control of their own lives, however it was violently crushed by an outside army. As Frederich Engels comments on the commune:

"The Commune made use of two infallible expedients. In this first place, it filled all posts — administrative, judicial, and educational — by election on the basis of universal suffrage of all concerned, with the right of the same electors to recall their delegate at any time. And, in the second place, all officials, high or low, were paid only the wages received by other workers. The highest salary paid by the Commune to anyone was 6,000 francs. In this way an effective barrier to place-hunting and careerism was set up, even apart from the binding mandates to delegates [and] to representative bodies, which were also added in profusion”

If we use the above criteria for the dictatorship of the proletarian masses for analyzing North Korea, we will find that North Korea falls short on all measures. In North Korea all posts of the state -administrative, judicial and educational- are NOT filled by election and universal suffrage. State officials in North Korea can not be recalled at any time. State officials in North Korea get paid far more than even the most highly skilled worker. Place-hunting and careerism is ripe in North Korea.
