Apart from the Sumich sleeper, Danny didn't do much. Libba did have a bit of mongrel in him agreed. However he was in that older era and he always coped a lot of punches for his dirty work on the field. Every game Libba was off with blood round his noggin which he deserved for being a niggling little bastard. :)

I can't remember a lot of love for Baz when he played for St Kilda.

At least the AFL loved him in Sydney

Didn't St.Kilda basically make it into a GF last year when Lake knocked Riewoldt off the ball??

That's basically what Scott Thompson did to Barry Hall whilst he was tying his shoe laces.


There are times in the game when a player deserves to be laid out...this was one of them.

Scott THompson deserved to cop a whack for that. Was just stupid. Hall did well to restrain himself...not many players would've been able to put up with that.

Seriously Roos, just concentrate on the game...you had kicked 1 goal to that point. Was an ordinary game.

It's a lot easier to root for a guy being harassed by a top class twat than it is to root for a guy who puts a king hit on someone.

:thumbsu: to Big Bazza. Thompson's NOT TOUGH, just taking cheap pot shots knowing he is protected by the games laws is a girls way out. Brad Scott needs to get his team focused on the ball and not this stupid crap. Hall will be fined, and i hope Thompson is for the pathetic way he started it.

May have been something to do with incidents like this

McFarlane, 32, who now works for a health fund, was struck by Hall during a reserves game against St Kilda at Waverley Park in 1997.

The slight wingman, who was 178cm and weighed 80kg in his playing days, spent three days in hospital and had his jaw wired back together.

"There were some similarities (to Staker's incident)," McFarlane said.

"My injuries were pretty significant from it, a lot worse than Brent's were.

"I had a compound fracture between the front part of my face and the right side of my jaw.

"I ended up having surgery and I have three titanium plates in my face that I will have forever."

Barry Hall deserves no favours from the umpires whatsoever.

pushing over a player tying up his laces deserves castration, reporting and a fine. throw the goddamned book at him.

i also call on the rules committee to enact a 5m lace-tying area, which players are not allowed to invade once a player has gone down on one knee in the act of tying up his shoelace(s). this also applies to having a drink (ie, elbowing a player with a water bottle could result in a nasty accident), and possibly also the runner (the player could be jostled into the runner and cause injury). it's high time the rules committee made this game fairer for the players and a cleaner spectacle, not just for the typical football fan, but also the children and mothers who watch our great sport.

Brad Scott has wasted an opportunity to educate his team against a good ball using side, rather choosing to have his men go out and niggle, assault, and generally act up against the spirit of the game.

Sniping even to this day from the coaches box. Weak and cowardly. Teach these young men how to play, don't just send them out there to muck up the year of real players who will be playing at the business end of the season while your mob are beginning their end of season trip.

The umpires caused this. Thompson is going to try and get an advantage and Hall isn't expected to be humiliated without standing up for himself. They paid frees for this sort of thing last year but they wouldn't do it, and that empowered the Roos to do it more.

Can't believe it gets broken up with a free to North.

We know McMahon got reported for dropping a soft knee into Picken, but if you look at the aftermath of the Hall headlock, Cooney came in, went to ground. McMahon was over his head and dropped his knee on to Cooney's head as well. Looks habitual to me and makes the reported one not so incidental.

I back North a fair bit and like them as my best mate supports them. Found myself wanting them to get annihilated after these incidents. You don't do things like this sneakily and then try to draw a free kick from the retaliator. That's not Shinboner toughness. It's akin to diving for mine.

For anyone who wasn't at the game - there was a buildup to this incident for a few minutes, something was certainly going to happen between the two!

I reckon Barry knew the contact was coming when he knelt down, but what I can't believe is how the field umpire ran away and left it up to the emergency umpire to deal with!!!!

Can't wait to hear the AFL crap on about wrestling, when all they had to do was pay a free kick either way to stop it.

It was great hearing Nth supporters call their own team soft!

To think that there are players out there who get free kicks for being sneezed on!

If only the players went as hard at the ball today as they went for Hall.

Yes, Thompson went too far today by knocking Hall over when he was attending to his shoe - and he should be punished for it.

As ar as all on here having a go at the other North players for jumping in, what would you do if you were playing? Just watch Hall suck the life out of him? I know on MMM they were staggered no Bulldogs player ran in to help......

Fair play to the WB supporters though. When you win, and win comfortably you can pretty much say what you like and us Nth fans will just need to cop that.

Very poor display today by our boys and we have a long way to go to compete with the best. On the positives, I liked the look of OKeefe in his first game, and thought Zeiball, CUnnington, Swallow, and Bastinac could walk off with their head held high.

One question though, who gave Smith the No. 18 to wear? Disgrace to that great number.
