My point is that as an individual Barry Hall is mentally delicate. His self control is non existant. He may have this fearsome reputation but in truth he has a very evident soft underbelly and opposition teams will look to exploit this.

So much of a defenders arsenal has been removed from the game- the AFL wants to see lots of goals so they limit those who can prevent it, what do you do? you niggle, get inside your opponents head. Niggling has always been a part of the game, and Thompson has always been an annoying pr*ck, ill be the first to admit that.
But he's been doing it his whole career, why is it only an issue when he's playing on Hall?
Genuine laughs at people calling Thompson a sniper for bumping a guy doing up his laces... the same guy who king hit a bloke.

Be careful what you wish for - if we were half way on our game today, and a half way decent side, the amount of inside 50s we managed could have really hurt you. Rocket might want to look into that.

Seems like the North boys are trying a bit too hard to be tough guys to impress their coach. In the end, it showed them up as being weak and try hard. Norths tough guy act = fail.

Barry should've gone Brent Staker styles on all those try hards, to teach them a lesson.

North should be ashamed of this gutless act and denounce it. Play the footy, not the man.

Totally agree here. Thompson is about as weak as piss as you can get knowing full well Hall was not going to retaliate.Full credit to Hall though in not overstepping the mark and having a swipe at him. This was one instance Hall should have been allowed to have a go at him as it would have put a stop to it straight away. Got no time for hacks like Thompson who try to project the tough guy image as any weak footballer can do what Thompson did today. Maybe this represents where North are at as a club today

Awesome thread is awesome.

North were pathetic today, and the eagerness of their players to get to a player who was running towards the bench and get in his face when they were getting spanked showed that they clearly lacked direction.

A young team should be taught not to worry about that sort of stuff.

Hall was tying up his shoelaces and Thompson gently nudges him off balance? If this was in the schoolyard, you wouldnt look twice.

When I heard that Thompson had kneed Hall in the head I was livid and trying to calculate how many weeks he'd get. When I saw the actual incident I was gobsmacked at how much of a nothing it was. Free kick probably but for Hall to go burko and then for Rocket to bring it up after the game does neither of them any credit.

Umpires are completely to blame. Pay the free kick at the time and get on with the game.

Any player having to tie up his shoe laces isn't in the play, and has nothing to do with a defenders ability to stop the opposition kicking goals.

Going after or niggling a player who's not upright on his feet is weak. How about North keep their niggling on Hall to when he's not tying his laces.

I have no problem with any player being a niggler, but when a guy is in such a position, such actions are inappropriate.
It doesn't look good for Thompson, and doesn't reflect well on North as a team when they acted as they did. Just look at the comments on here to illustrate.

HALL is the one that is asking for it. He has been asking for it his entire time in football. If he wasn't such a fiery prick then Thompson wouldn't be after him like this. That is a fact and you all know it.

Hall deserves this niggling treatment for playing the way he has for so long. What do you expect other teams to just sit back and take his intimidating ways? Ridiculous. Unbelievable the people sticking up for Hall this is the guy that knocked someone else out coldly on the field.

If we're 11-2 by the time we play North, I actually wouldn't mind Mooney doing the honours in Round 14 if Thompson tried that crap at Skilled. Moons might get a six week holiday courtesy of the MRP for it, but he'll be able to freshen up and come back a couple of weeks before the finals.

I agree its not needed, but as has been pointed out by previous posters it's not the first time its happened. Ive seen it happen many a times (admittedly i cant NAME a game as its such a minimal pointless thing) so why is it only now that it happens to Hall an issue.

Scott Thompson was kissed on the face last year by fev, in any other work place that would of been sexual harrassment, however Thompson, The AFL and the community as a whole laughed it off as just a laugh.

It really is a non issue that has been blown way out of proportion just because the act got a "reaction" from Barry, if it had been any other forward in the league it would of been ignored, but because the media is so focused on wanting to see Hall blow up its going to get played over and over.

The dogs got the points, they outplayed us (who would of thought) and are looking serious contenders for the flag barring any run of injuries. Take your points and stop whingeing. I dont think either player will or SHOULD get any weeks for what happened it was such a nonevent.

He had 3 or 4 guys come up to him when he was heading off to the bench, all having a go. And was surrounded by half the roos team at one stage.

Should be a rule - if it's 3 on 1 you can swing...

He did well. Showed he's not going to take their crap but didn't snap. Good work.

And then Barry was doing nothing at all and was getting flung and dragged by Thompson.

saw the incident barely touched him and hall fell. so r u saying a headlock is allowed in footy.
if he doesnt finally get suspended its crap and an absolute joke.

What i want to know is why isn't hall being better protected by the umpires. Isn't it now a freekick to the forward if the defender keeps elbowing and hitting you in the back? Happened for a whole half with nothing. Had the ump paid the freekick when hall was pushed over it would never have erupted as it did and when hall was coming off and he was being targeted they should have blown the whistle again and awarded a free to stop it.

If it was Happining to someone like Saint Nick he would have had like 10 freekicks in that passage.

Also Dissapointed it took Lake to run 100m to help hall. Where were the guys closer to him?

Another Annoying thing is that at the start of the 3rd Quarter the umps go to Barry and tell him off instead of warning the Roo players.
