What a victory by England to win the last Test in Pakistan, they won it with a couple of overs left in nearly pitch black conditions-the cheating Pakis slowed the over rate down to just over 10 an hour even with 2 spinners on for most of the time then at the end they had the cheek to complain because their fielders couldn't see the ball. After Pakistan ended the 1st day on around 3/290 with 2 batsmen both 100 not out it was a near miracle that England won but I tell you there's some spirit in this England team now & we have become the first away team to EVER win a Test in Karachi in 46 years of Tests being played there! They said we had no spinners they said we couldn't play spin(& that's just the English press) but we showed them that we're back as a power in world cricket-we've told the counties to stick it up their arse & that the national team is the most important thing not their own self interest-England players are now rested between Tests & everyone is pulling in the same direction-so watch out Aussie cos we're coming gunning for you blokes next year & underestimate us at your peril.
Go the Hawks!
Go the Poms!

Don't get too cocky Dipper.
Remember we have won the last 12 test mathces in a row. Which included beating Pakistan 3 nil. Don't get cocky like back in 1997 i think when you guys won the first three one day mathces aginist us before the ashes and the british press were sending out headlines "THE ASHES ARE COMING HOME!" Im not that worried, you guys have found some form and determination, but this current aussie team has so much depth, so much hunger, ready to crush any team in their way. So watch out the poms!!!

I did watch part of that test last night and England were VERY IMPRESSIVE. They seem to be much better organised, more determined, and less likely to throw in the towel. There have been England teams in the last 10 years that have had more natural talent than the team that's in Pakistan now, but few have played with the grit and confidence that this team has shown in Pakistan. Forget any excuse about Pakistani cricket being in crisis....they have always been in a state of crisis.....any series victory in that country will boost the confidence levels of the touring team.

Australia are still a much more naturally talented side than England, but I'm starting to think that the next Ashes series won't be the cakewalk that it has been in recent years.

p.s. By a closer series, I mean that we'll only win 3-1 instead of the usual 4-1

Watching the night cricket I thought the best bit was when Moin Khan pleaded with Steve Bucknor to go off because his fielders couldn't see the ball. Bucknor just waved him away and pointed to the bowler. Moin had the cheek to complain about the light yet he had Waqar Younis bowling.

Served the Paki's right.

DIPPER-It was a good win to England BUT it was only a two match series, one of which was a draw, Pakistan isn't a good team anyway, missing alot of players eg. Shoaib Aktar (the EX fastest bowler in the world), so yeah just to put that back into perspectives for you, there you go.

Actually PieGirl, I'm fairly sure it was a 3 test series. And winning in Pakistan is no easy task (as we've had to experience for ourselves.) I'm really looking forward to the Ashes tour in 2001, can we maintain our form or will the Poms be able to hand our the pressure and fight to win back the Ashes title.

Hats off to the Poms, watched a fair bit of it here - they were worthy winners - not a lot of test matches won when the opposition make over 400 in the first dig and then cheat on the last day with over rates.

England will still be flat out beating us with the likes of McGrath, B.Lee, Warne, Macgill, Gillespie and that's just the bowlers! But it will be great for Cricket if it is at least a close series.

It was a three test series BTW

Congrats to the Poms

But Dipp "a power in world cricket" - you've been reading The Sun again haven't you!!

Beating the Windies, (so did Victoria!)Zimbabwe (hardly a powerhouse!) 1 nil and scraping in against the Pakis by the same margin doesn't really have me trembling in my boots

But saying that England are certainly on the improve and hopefully you guys can give our boys a bit of competition next year!

Cheers

Gonzo

It'll be an interesting series. England's next tour is Sri Lanka while Australia has India in India, so, playing the devil's advocate, how would the cofidence levels of England and Australia be at the next Ashes series if England is coming off a 1-0 win over SL (for 3 series wins in a row) while Australia is coming off a 1-0 loss against India (to dint the confidence levels a little)?

Still, it's the bowlers who win matches, so Australia could may have to pick 4 players out of McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, MacGill, Warne, and possibly Miller for any given test against England.

Hey Dipper. I have seen the british papers before. They really are offensive and hold nothing back. So i was wondering, what are they saying about this current Australian side and are they talking up their chances in the Ashes series next year?
Thanks Dipper...

hurray for the pommies!!!!!nothing i liked better than giving it to mullally and he seems to bite when you stir him up..i hope the pommies continue their form as i once used to love watching the windies play the aussies back in the joel garner and co era but now im not even gonna waste my cash and go ro boxing day test as it will either piss down rain or it will be over in a day..cant wait to see the proteas back here, that was edge of your seat shit playing sth africa..

Sikblond, you're right when u say Mullaly is easy to stir as he does get very defensive over his Englishness, personally I think that he is a gutless waste of space & would happily send him back to Perth on the other hand Bendigo boy Craig White is looking like a genuine test match allrounder(not many of those about)
Nick the Pieman, the tabloid papers r indeed very offensive & r talking up the Ashes a bit but the 'proper' papers have had a lot of coverage of the Aussie cricket team lately & really there is nothing but respect for your team,in fact they would be surprised if they came on this BB & read some people saying that there is no young talent coming through or that this team is not as good as Windies 84,in England we tend to think that everything to do with Aussie cricket is perfect & that Aussie cricketers r tougher & more skillful than our own(probably right there huh?)All the papers had a story of Steve Waugh's remarks concerning England's victory in Pakistan, the jist was that he damned us with faint praise so that stirred everyone up a bit.(he said that Atherton was still McGrath's bunny)

RE the 2001 Ashes,I have said on here before that the current Aussie side is a great team, the best in the world by a mile,a strong
top6,an amazing wicketkeeper/batsman,good fast bowlers & a couple of quality spinners but for England to go & win in Pakistan cannot be understated, hardly any pitches in England offer help 4 the spinners & our batters haven't had to play top spinners on the sub continent for 13 years. There is a definite toughening up of our side, the tail is now making runs & we have a fast bowling attack that is real strong in English conditions,if you'd seen how much the ball was swinging over here last summer you wouldn't believe it-due to the weather this is probably the hardest country for batting in the world now.So I admit you've got the best team & should win but if we even look like winning everyone will just go bloody mental & the crowds at the grounds will go mad & create a great atmosphere & we might we just might WIN BACK THOSE BLOODY AHSES BACK FROM THOSE ARROGANT B@STARDS IN THEIR BAGGY GREEN CAPS
Dipper's predictions for 2001,England to win Ashes 2-1 & the rip roaring Hawks to beat Essendon in the GF just like in 84.Oh & Arsenal to win the English premership.
