The old me thought what a load of shit, american crap culture at its finest. But the new one thought, kids are out there having fun, adventure, being different, not robots or programmed corporate money trees. Getting fresh air, meeting new people, being imaginative creative, getting reward for effort.

Not alot of that going on anymore.

If you complain about kids coming to your house for free sweets but love the Halloween parties women use as an excuse to dress up as sluts then you're a hypocritical w***er.

I always enjoy having free candy with eye candy.

Halloween is awesome in America where everyone gets into it, should be kept there..

Here and everywhere else it's just half arsed with some American wannabes trying to get into it and most other people just not that into it or totally oblivious to it, which usually ends up being a rather sad spectacle for all concerned.

Yeah agree with it being half assed here, the costumes I saw amounted to bed sheet ghosts, people in normal clothes and a $3 witches hat and a group of teenagers who didn't even do that and just wanted free candy. My parents give them $2 shop crap, one year they left it for me to give them while they were away so I just removed the battery from the doorbell...

Pretty much hate it as it's just being pushed as an excuse for retailers to sell more overpriced shit which ends up cluttering cupboards, besides the level we bother with here isn't even enough to be considered half assed, it's maybe 1/10th assed at best.

Celebrating Halloween in Australia is stupid. When I have kids in the future, I would be embarrassed if they walked up to stranger's doors and asked them for lollies. I have a headache tonight from the amount of times my doorbell has been rung. I really don't care if it's cruel when I didn't answer the doorbell. Anyway whatever happened to 'never take candy from a strangers'?? What if someone offered the kids drugs that looked like lollies and the kids just had them on the way home?? That's a scary thought!

The only reason I like Halloween is because horror movies are shown all night! that's it!

I just find it kind of strange how something which I don't really remember celebrating here has sprung up these last few years. The first time I had kids knocking on my door, asking for candy, I was pretty bamboozled. I mean, it was something I'd always seen in movies, but I'd never known it to be practiced here, or at least not where I live.

Funny how mothers now condone their young children taking candy from me on one night of the year, when it would surely earn me a torrent of abuse, as she forcefully pulled her child away, if it happened at any other time of the year.

good post. It's strange isn't it?? Why is this though? Is it because kids these days are influenced by TV a lot more than when we were kids? I remember when I was a kid, I thought trick or treat was rather cool when I saw it on TV, but I never had the urge to want to go out and do it myself!

Also I forgot to mention I got toilet paper and eggs thrown at my house last year!! bastards!!
Luckily nothing like that happened tonight, because if it did, I'll be chasing the **** down the street!!
Really pathetic! The American tradition can stay a American tradition. They literally celebrate anything. If there was a 'wipe your ass in public day' they'd probably celebrate it lol! :p

A truly dedicated arseh*le would somehow lace chocolate with laxatives and rewrap it in generic wrappers like you get from a $2 shop, the boring plain foil ones.

The chance of laced candy would surely be around the same as any crime that would be unpreventable?

If the statistics show it's much higher then I think you have an argument.

I think this more occurred from people making their own treats and in countries where it's bigger, or simply doing this...

I'm enjoying it! Everyone is dressed up at work today. My street is all decorated with jack-o-lnaterns and falling leaves. All the breweries come out with pumpkin beers. I'll be taking my little boy out tonight. He's too young to trick-or-treat but it will be fun to see everybody on the street in their costumes. Plus, it's another excuse to have a party with friends on Friday :)

Went to the movies last night (Saw Prisoners, top movie, go see it). Some dude walking around the shopping centre dressed up in a Darth Maul costume. Looked absolutely brilliant. Just walking around staring down people and scaring little kids.

Halloween is a celtic tradition. The irish love halloween. Spent Halloween in Cairns. There are loads of Irish in Cairns. Epic night. So hungover this morning :(

Never mind Halloween, when did St Paticks day become a big deal? Or Chinese New Year for that matter? I've never noticed either of them, whenever they are. At least Halloween I know when it is even if I'm not interested.

Funny world. Many of us probably have relatives who probably participated in this 'American' shit back in Ireland and Scotland once upon a time. Many of us probably all know someone who hates this 'American' shit but can't wait for St Patrick's Day. Can't get my head around it.

Solid post. No idea why people get so worked up over us adopting some American traditions while they whole heartedly embrace others. Seems like the best way to get some people angry is to suggest doing something American.
