im pretty sure there is a way that after november or something his contract can be terminated and we pay him out outside the salary cap. but no certainties.

even if we terminate his contract He will still be in next year's salary cap. it makes no difference. the only difference is the number of players that you can have. by leaving him on the list he is counted as one of the 38 by terminating his contract his payments will be part of the salary cap for next year but i believe he won't be considered as one fo the 38.

Yes but were probably at 100% for 2007, so we may not have much choice

Remember though that next year perhaps

Gherig Big $
Voss
Blake and at least 1 or 2 other Ruckman

and a few 2 to 3rd year players won't be there as well

and maybe Harvey as well (1/2 Salary)

Is Hudgeton on the Veterans list yet?

both hudgeton and harvey could be on the vets list this year but they were not put on the vets list so therefre it increased the number of rookies the saints could take from 4 to 6.

Lessons were learned by a lot of clubs during the late 90s early 00s. One of my big worries with free agency will be the need to sign players to long contracts like the H.

Injuries are so harsh. I used to love watching Hamill play. My favourite piece of play ever was when he ran to a pack on the half forward flank. He ran to the pack, picked up a player by his jumper and throw him out of the road, jumped in grabbed the ball, had a couple hanging off him and gave it off. LOL, just the way he picked up a bloke and throw him out of the way was classic, it was like he didnt even know it was a person and was just thinking, "this thing is between me and the ball, I want it gone".

I always love Sammy doing his thing, but when we signed him up for 5 years, I remember thinking, "oh,oh..." I just KNEW it would be a disaster. Such long term contracts always make me nervous.

While Hamill's famous determination to "get back on the park" is commendable, I think that if he really wants to serve the club, he should retire and refuse the payout - he's been given plenty of money for not much over the last two years, so I think that's fair. And I also think I heard somewhere that that's acceptable legally and for the salary cap issue, though I'm not sure. (Anybody know?)

I am pretty sure no matter what we pay out the 600K is in the Salary Cap. Given we are not scrounging for money anymore its academic what he gets
