Works better in Brisbane doing it with Birchall and the like when the team is already going well and you can plug that player into a young side who need more experience for a run at the flag.

Yeah true, but they're so far in the other direction they're in the take what you can get camp when it comes to experienced players, which also works for a player in Hartlett's position if he wants to keep playing.

Good luck to him. If he stays here he's probably looking at a 1 year contract on minimal cash with a good chance of playing most of his footy in the SANFL. If he goes to the SUNS he's probably looking at a multi year contract on decent cash with a good chance of playing most of his footy in the AFL. It's a no brainer.

As long as we don't delist him, Gold Coast offer him a contract and he signs it, we don't have a net gain through free agency (eg signing Kelly or Guthrie) and he qualifies for a FA compensation band (I think it's likely to be a third rounder or nothing).

Hartlett certainly had the potential to be an elite player and in the end was not. That's partly on him and partly on his body letting him down. However some parts of this post are ridiculously harsh.

Hartlett was deservedly part of our best back 6 that had a lot to do with why we were minor premiers. He was BOG in the first final but that is always conveniently overlooked.

Lets not forget that if Rockliff had made ANY effort to reach out and touch the ball the call would have been different.
