Just how plausible is it that by the end of season 2008, Shaun Hampson could be our number 1 ruckman?

Sure, his competition in that regard isn't great, but regardless, it would be a very good effort if he could pull it off. We seem to forget that he's only been playing AFL football for 3 years or so, and is still raw, both in body and football-related attributes. He may not play that many games in season 2008, and originally I thought that this would be the case, but my goodness, he hasn't put a foot wrong in his work over the preseason, and it could just pay off for him and the club.

Fantastic to see that not only does he have confidence in himself, but also that others within the club have plenty of confidence in him.

I have been really impressed with Hammo, not only towards the end of last year, but also from reading all the positive reports about him during this preseason. His desire to push himself to new heights in order to maintain his fitness is to be commended and deserves to be recognised by all.

I wish him all the best for the coming season, and whilst I would be wary of him taking the number 1 rucking spot from the start of season 2008, I wouldn't be totally against it.

We have a gem of a player in Hammo and I can't wait to track his development in the years to come.

Reminds me of how similar Andrew Carrazzo's preseason was last year with his attitude to training . At the family day you could sense something was going to happen in 07.

The good thing about Hammer is that clubs still don't rate or expect anything from him.

So for him in 2008 it'll make it easier for him, and when he gets some big scalps in 2008 ppl will take another look at what they missed.

Although this is all expectations, it seems like a change around the club has helped him swtich on...good luck to him.

.....and good luck to RFC on March 20, when we unleash this beast!!!

"Lark the way your thenkin', sern!"

He dropped a wad of Skoal Citrus Blend Long Cut tobacco into the spittoon and clanked across to the saloon door. Outside it was hot enough to fry prairie eggs on a babies face. Course nothing near so fragile or sweet as a littlun' in these parts no more. No sir, not since the shaming.

Tweren't nothing much the same since that bitter cold winter day, February 4th, 1842.

Clubs or club's supporters dont rate him ?
After his great mid-season form last year he was tagged heavily in the latter part of the year.
I think he has earnt respect from most of the leagues coaches, but he should still get an easier run with most clubs unwilling to play more than 2 taggers through the midfield.

Hammer as in Hampson...played the last 2 games.

I think you mean Carrots.

What I like about Hampson was hearing about how much work he put in between the end of the H&A season and pre-season, when most of the guys were taking rests and having fun, he was off the grog and keeping his mind and body sharp. When he showed up for pre-season training, he was ready. That shows that the kid's got a terrrific attitude and really wants to make the most of what could be a very lucrative opportunity.

The guy probably hears all the time about how good the midfield is, but the only thing that keeps it from being in the elite is a solid ruckman. That if we had someone like Cox, we'd be a powerhouse. He would realise that the opportunity is there if he wants it, because he's got Hackland (need we say more), Cloke (solid, but slow, under an injury cloud and lacking in height) Aisake (who is still learning the game), Jacobs (hasn't really done much to impress the judges so far, and is a ranga ;) ) as his opposition, and that the chances of developing an elite ruckman from that group is very slim. He's the real hope, and I think he knows it.

He's no doubt been told by the coaches that he could be part of something very special, and could turn out to be that icing on the cake. Some would buckle under such pressure, but Hammer seems to have embraced it. He'll take many hits this year, but no doubt he'll learn much, and if his attitude over pre-season is anything to go by, he'll keep at it until he's one of the best in the comp.

They're both still learning the game.

And what about Kruezer?

It also reflects the fact that his endurance was terrible when he arrived.

Not sure what his beep test was, or time trial, but watching him struggle to get to contests vs Roos was either poor endurance or poor concentration.

Great to see he is endeavouring to rectify these issues.:thumbsu:

I'll tip him for the rising star.:thumbsu:

Aisake's also fighting off injury as well, and from what I've heard seems to have dipped behind a bit. Kreuzer is just starting out, and will probably be used more as a forward anyway. He'll need a year of pinch-hitting before thinking about being a regular in the middle.

That may put Hammer slightly ahead of the Kreuze Missile and Sake Bomb for this season, but looking ahead long term, I struggle to split them -very exciting times ahead :):thumbsu:

Indeed. I hope that there is a competitive attitude between these guys, and that they all seek to outdo the other. Hammer has set the example, and I hope this inspires the other guys.

no no, very similar I'm sure ;)

I'm sure too! ;)

I don't think we'll have to wait until next year for our no1 ruckman to emerge, it looks like he's here already.:)

really excited about the prospect of this bloke. This could very well be the best draft that we have ever had because im expecting Gibbs to be better than Murphy and Grigg to be a similar player to Dal Santo.
