Fantastic to see that not only does he have confidence in himself, but also that others within the club have plenty of confidence in him.
I have been really impressed with Hammo, not only towards the end of last year, but also from reading all the positive reports about him during this preseason. His desire to push himself to new heights in order to maintain his fitness is to be commended and deserves to be recognised by all.
I wish him all the best for the coming season, and whilst I would be wary of him taking the number 1 rucking spot from the start of season 2008, I wouldn't be totally against it.
We have a gem of a player in Hammo and I can't wait to track his development in the years to come.
Reminds me of how similar Andrew Carrazzo's preseason was last year with his attitude to training . At the family day you could sense something was going to happen in 07.
The good thing about Hammer is that clubs still don't rate or expect anything from him.
So for him in 2008 it'll make it easier for him, and when he gets some big scalps in 2008 ppl will take another look at what they missed.
Although this is all expectations, it seems like a change around the club has helped him swtich on...good luck to him.
.....and good luck to RFC on March 20, when we unleash this beast!!!
Clubs or club's supporters dont rate him ?
After his great mid-season form last year he was tagged heavily in the latter part of the year.
I think he has earnt respect from most of the leagues coaches, but he should still get an easier run with most clubs unwilling to play more than 2 taggers through the midfield.
He would realise that the opportunity is there if he wants it, because he's got Hackland (need we say more), Cloke (solid, but slow, under an injury cloud and lacking in height) Aisake (who is still learning the game), Jacobs (hasn't really done much to impress the judges so far, and is a ranga) as his opposition, and that the chances of developing an elite ruckman from that group is very slim. He's the real hope, and I think he knows it.
It also reflects the fact that his endurance was terrible when he arrived. What I like about Hampson was hearing about how much work he put in between the end of the H&A season and pre-season, when most of the guys were taking rests and having fun, he was off the grog and keeping his mind and body sharp. When he showed up for pre-season training, he was ready. That shows that the kid's got a terrrific attitude and really wants to make the most of what could be a very lucrative opportunity.
They're both still learning the game.
And what about Kruezer?
Aisake's also fighting off injury as well, and from what I've heard seems to have dipped behind a bit. Kreuzer is just starting out, and will probably be used more as a forward anyway. He'll need a year of pinch-hitting before thinking about being a regular in the middle.
