The first one was impressive but the second he didnt get up very high...it just looked half decent because the other guy sorta collapsed.

He's been getting hitouts 1-2 feet over the top of other rucks all summer. He has the second highest vertical lea at the club (behind Waite), and is the fastest over 20m.
Not bad for a guy at 201cm.

He has already put in good performances against Sandilands in SA, smashed Brogan in the NAB cup, and was more than competitive vs Taylor and Cambell.

He will smash Pattison and compete well against Simmonds. Bookmark it.

Intersting to note that swann and ratten said hampson was our no.1 ruckman this year during a media conference... also said that he and a few others were up for selection this week so i think that means he may be on the mend

Well thats all well and good...but can he get the footy, mark it, kick it, handball it?
Or is he just an athlete?
Simmonds is 202 (I think), runs 20m in 2.94 and is a tank.
If we played him up forward, who would you guys play?
Waite (I pressume) will go to Richo, especially if setanta aint fit...then youve still gotta match up on two or three of: Simmonds, Pattison, Schulz, Hughes, Polak, Riewoldt.
Plus Deledio and Brown.
Im not saying theyre all guns, but...niether is Hampson...so our tall forwards are similar.
But weve got the edge on the ground in Lids and Browny.

But anyway...whats Hampsons chances of playing?
(Hes in my dreamteam and supercoach teams :p)

LMAO!!! A 2nd year ruckmen would cause headaches playing out of position. Pleeease lol.
um....your saying hampson is dope but you post three VFL 2nd's players and a backmen and expect us too be scared orr something...
i can't wait to be the hell out of richmond

Much like Cloke last year, Hampson's pre-season has pushed him from 3rd on the list to number 1. Geez I hope he's fit.......Tiges fans won't know what hit em.;)

To be honest im not concerned with the rucks of this game. Cloke got it done last year with a half baked midfield (compaired to now) and a generally pretty unfit team. I think our midfields gonna win the clearences no matter who gets the hitouts. I wouldn't bother using up a rookie elevation pretty much for this match, because it's going to be a rarity that we're down on talls. Gunning for Ellard and Jamo by the end of the year.

Haha well...Carlton fans ould tend to say that.
Im sure some Tigers will say bookmark Simmonds for BOG.

But in a way, I hope he does play...it will be better for both teams to have as close a full strength line up as possible to see if we/you have improved.
But im not shattered if hes not :p

Simmonds????

Whats a ruckman with bad knees????

Pattison ....???

Just a trier...

This is the sort of thing he has been doing to opposition rucks at the centre square.
In order to counter it Brogan went the body - EVERY centre bounce that wasn't crooked, Brogan either got beaten as above or infringed.

Hampson is a freak. NAB rising star IMO.:thumbsu:

The only issue I have with such a great leap, is if someone takes his legs from under him it's a hell of a long way to fall & a major concern for injury.

That's why such a move by the opposing ruckman is very dangerous and heavily policed........and part of the reason Brogan had so much trouble with him.......Brogan started to run at the body to negate the jump and was pinged about 5 times for it.

Genreally he takes a couple of short steps then goes straight up. The chances of being tunelled enough to land on your head are minimal. If he was running in flat and out then jumping his momentum would cause him to rotate more and would be more of a concern.

Hampson v Sandilands.

IIRC, Sandilands had front position at that throw in, but Hampson was smart and moved around AS to win the tap. He didn't try to outbody or jump over the top of Sandilands in that contest because that would have been a stupid move.

He used his speed and leap to take front position against a bigger opponent.

Hampson is further advanced than we would have hoped.

Thank God we tanked and played Hampson in round 22 to give him some experience.

OMG The club need to tell us weather he will play this week or not..... same with Kruezer.... stupid slack ass club.. jokes

I really hope Hampson plays.... without him i think we will lose

We will lose to Richmond because we beat them with Cloke and Ackland last year?

We beat Port with Brogan and Lade with just Carlos and Ackland rucking.

Hampson is a promising player and our number one ruckman, but he isn't the key to our midfield after just two games.

The Simmonds and Pattison combination isn't to be feared.

We will lose if we don't find a replacement for Fisher's goals and our midfield is beaten.

When the more senior McLaren would have been the correct "Non tanking" choice.

Source: Libba's secret dossier on tanking at the CFC.
He would have played Saddo ahead of Jammison too. Now that Jammo has been delisted, (according to Hutchy..........the club obviously don't know how to break it too him yet) don't we look the fools.

Mclaren?

I've totally forgotten he was on our list last year.

Mclaren was abominable in the 2004 Grand Final and looked like a cow with a cup of tea when he had to kick or handpass.
