I really reckon this guy could be our #1 ruckman for season 2009. After watching the game last night and seeing him start in the forward line I thought he was gonna be unaffective. But to my shock he played a really great game last night. Who saw at a few boundary throw ins Hampson throw away Ottens when was the last time a Carlton ruckman did that to the oppistions number ruckman?

So what are your thoughts?

He certainly stepped up last night, I almost had a heart-attack when i saw him starting up forward but he seemed to do ok. Didn't really notice a lot of his ruck work (what were his hit-outs like?). Hopefully he can come good this season and cement a spot in the 22.

He still looks very uncoordinated at times, but at other times he des things that I really wouldn't expect from a player of his height.

Last night he looked quite dangerous up forward at times but he really needs to improve on taking his marks. He drops some sitters.

I expect Hammer to play in round 1 vs Richmond but I'm not sure he'll be our number 1 ruck. He'll rotate through with Kreuz mainly.

My sentiments exactly.
Dropped far too many marks and did likewise last week !

i also agree with this, imagine if he can start to get most of his marks to stick though, cause with his height and athleticism he seemed to be getting first hands on the ball a lot, just couldn't hold on every time

Hampson is very maligned, and i don't quite understand why. I thought his efforts were brilliant last night around the ground. His ruckwork against the seasoned Hawk ruckman was great, and imo came out on top.

He's got plenty of improvement left in him yes, but you've got to take the good with the bad until he really finds his feet.

well my misses loves him, and i thought he played alright. hes got all the makings to be a top afl footy player just lacks the skills to compete at top level. He got caught a couple of times in the geelong game not having front position in marking contests. Ive previously said clokey may be the man for us up forward but he let me down last night, hammer showed some real promise. O and how was his pace on a chase down, that guy is quick as. hopefully we can develop a rotation between hammer and kreuzer/warnock through ruck and forward could be lethal

Great game last night, play him and let Warnock have all the time he needs to get right and fit before we throw him in first ruck, too many Good ruckman is a very good thing, especially with GC17 coming in and looking for all sorts of players.

Well when he extends his arms I don't know if there are many defenders who can spoil him. At the moment he isn't holding on to a lot of those marks but hopefully he can develop that aspect of his game.

Special K, Hampson and Warnock. All three are big, strong and athletic. Once all three are up and running it will be fantastic. The Blues will have the strongest ruck division in the league by a long way.........
Just to think it has been such a weakness for us for such a long time.........

why would we want to trade any of our developing ruckmen , If they do turn out they will be gems that are very hard to come by !!

I hope he makes it,like the built of him, looks strong just needs to mark the ball, looks like he claps his hands when he tries to mark. He could be a dangerous player if he could make it.Adrian Deluca strike 1 Asaike Ohailipin strike 2,hopefully he can do it.

Hampson's ruckwork in our forwardline against Ottens was fantastic.

Wasn't outbodied and just reached over Ottens to get his hand on the ball three times.

Incredible reach.

Hammer is a lot stronger than Wood who has been in the system since 2005.

Hampson's marking might be as bad Deluca's, but he's only been playing AFL for a couple of years, yet held a mark running flat out on Saturday night.

If Hammer does drop a mark, he still has the speed and agility to mop up his errors at ground level.

Deluca was shot like Cloke if he dropped a mark.

The run down on Byrnes and the clean pick up at ground level is pretty rare for a big man.

You also cant play 4 ruckmen in the one team, Warnock and Kruezer would be our first 2 choices. If Hampson is running around for the bullants and cant get a game in the seniors wouldnt we be better to trade him to say GC17 for a high draft pick or risk him walking into a pre season draft and getting nothing? Hampson could turn out to be a CHF which would fix a problem for us and still leave us at least 2 top class ruckmen, but if he only can play ruck and we have at least 2 ruckmen ahead of him, id rather see the club benefit from him and the work they put into him.

No , you can't play 4 ruckmen in 1 team . However , ruckmen get injured , probably more often than other players . So we need at least 4 on the list .

Apart from his marking , Hampson is developing pretty well .

I don't see why so many are putting so much faith in Warnock . Played 3 seasons , only 21 senior games . Spent several weeks in 2008 as a back-up ruckman to Mark Seaby in the WAFL , because Keplar Bradley kept him out of the shockers team . Not a good sign .
Definately injury prone as well .
At this stage way behind Jacobs , Kreuser , and Hampson .

Jacobs is our best ruckman at the moment . I think he will be promoted and will be in the side for round 1 with Kreuser .
Hampson as a back-up in case of injury while he gets more experience in the Ants .

what happend with kreuzer going up forward imo if hampson does end up making it , along with warnock , Kreuzer will be played up forward .

Jacobs can always be back up along with kreuzer.

But to trade any of them away will be silly imo , as our ruck has been weak for so long it would be stupid to throw a ruck force with such potential away !! Remember it all starts in the ruck ;)
