Hang on...

We're still 1-7.

Our crowds are bare (read: we are losing money)

We haven't beaten a proper team in yonks (read: takes more than Brian Taylor pumping our tyres to win back respect from other teams)

Watts has yet to prove anything other than that he can read the wind out in Casey Fields. Even Isaac Weetra cut it up in the VFL.

The Olympic Park Precinct is still just a field across the road.

Feel free to carry on...

(I'm not a fan of optimism, for new readers of my work)

Isaac Weetra wasn't being named in the bests for the Casey 2's. Otherwise i can't fault any of that.

I guess we are just an exciting, young, up and coming team.

The same backline that has conceded more points than any other team in the comp?

Bar Freo, who don't really count.

Oh, and BC > Dez.

BAN HIM!!!!!!!

Ban him now.

DAMN IT PEOPLE!!!!!

Lies that deserve a ban at least, but the death penalty is more sufficient.

Well said that man.

I've heard that following Richmond is punishment for shoplifting in some places...

Oh come on. Just as this board is starting to have a slight change in mindset, towards something more positive, you try and stifle that.

In these difficult periods it is beneficial to have some optimism, and look for positives, no matter how trivial. I, for one, have been impressed with what the team has offered given last year's performance. We have seen development from a number of players, a greater desire to contribute and a far better execution of the game plan. These facts, in conjunction with the prospect of good draft picks and further improvement from our young players, give our supporter base great reason to be hopeful for the future.

The alternative to this sort of optimism is deciding who played badly, needs to be dropped and delisted. To me, this isn't the most enjoyable way to look at the club.

For as long as we are MFC there will always be work to be done until we one day (if ever) catch up to the rest. One thing for certain though is if you look at what we have accomplished since the nose dive that was 2007 it is pretty significant. We can't fix everything at once, I doubt we could have been too much more productive in such a short time frame either.

The same backline that has conceded more points than any other team in the comp?

I think that's probably got more to do with some terrible skill errors occurring in the middle of the ground, which have resulted in the ball being turned over when we've had numbers committed up the ground.

Also a lack of forward pressure at times has allowed our opponents to move the ball rapidly from one end to the other. In both these situations, its very difficult for the backs to stop goals being scored because they're just left with too much to do.

I think that when we've managed to slow the opposition's forward movement and not turn the ball over too much (as we did on Sat.) our defenders have done a really good job.

I think they've been pretty disciplined as a unit, I mean Matty Warnock has been fantastic, again. Frawley has made massive improvement. Whelan showed why he's so important to us with his hardness and composure. Then you have Martin who continues to improve. Rivers will be ready to deliver his best once he can (hopefully) string some games together. Garland who is one of the more promising tall defenders going around, and Bennell who's showed some class as a small defender.

Our backline held up really well on Sat. IMO, and that was without Rivers, Frawley & Garland who make up 3 of our best back 6. So there's plenty of depth there. Im hearing good things about Tom McNamara as well, so I mean the Backline stocks are looking very solid...

You've also got to take into account some of the names missing from Sat. Apart from Brad Green who's key, and the 3 defenders i mentioned (Rivers, Frawley & Garland) plus there were four kids absent, namely Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell who have the potential to be stars at Senior level.

To run a top 4 team to within 10 points at this stage of our squad's development was a good effort IMO :thumbsu: Also we haven't been getting hammered like we were last year. The players are showing far greater determination to stay in the contest.

I've been to all the Victorian games so far except the Collingwood one, and I have to say that I've been pretty disappointed by the turnouts. I mean, we have 30,000 members and I think the dogs have a similar amount. So to get 28,000 on a Saturday afternoon is pretty woeful.

I guess we just have more bandwagon supporters than some other teams. Hopefully this will change though as people start to see how positive the changes that have been implemented are.

I wouldnt worry about the 1 & 7 ratio either. We have been very competive in most of the matches, and we have a 'ton' more upside then most clubs with the players we've got coming through:thumbsu:

Good times ahead :D

lighten up buddy, there's is plenty of great times to come

We are better than last year and have more positive than two years ago. Maybe my standards have just been significantly lowered but with what we've got, we're doing OK.

On the field
Average losing margin is what 20 points or less?

With less injuries, yet alone improvement from some of our players I think we will be more than 20 points better next year!

Off the field
Crowds are average and future is still in the air, but we have a record membership, and the roos look to have slipped back below us into the weakest club.

The test will be to see if we improve the bottom line when we start winning games.

I do see where your coming from BC, we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. But it is very pleasing to actually see the improvement we've hoped for. As long as this continues throughout the year I'll be satisfied, regardless of our W/L ratio.

Off-field I think we are also improving...gotta be happy with where the membership and sponsorship is now at. And hey, no debt demolishion this year! We are in front. The crowds with roll in with the success, unfortunate but true.

If there was a Brownlow for presidents Jimmy would be paying $1.001

Injuries are what's frustrating me for sure.

If only we could've avoided that problem to the extreme that we've had it this year - then we'd have really stunned a lot of people so far this season too & been well in the running to play finals.

But even with the injuries, we're improving rapidly IMO.

And yeah, the off-field achievements since last year when Jimmy took over have been absolutely mammoth.

We're still 1-7.
But unlike last year it's easier to see the silver lining rather than pondering whether a D4 Amatuers side would beat us.

Our crowds are bare (read: we are losing money)
True. Hopefully a better stadium deal as well as the bandwagon effect re. Hawthorn changes this when we start winning some games.

We haven't beaten a proper team in yonks (read: takes more than Brian Taylor pumping our tyres to win back respect from other teams)
Agree but after the past few games I think we're getting close to embarrassing a top 8 side.

Harsh. Has played 2 senior games, he still has work to do. KPP take a while even Buddy Franklin looked like a 6'6 rover early doors at VFL level.

I don't like the Olympic Park precinct feel it could be another white lephant for our club.

Imagine Junior and Michael Newton going to Bailey and asking him to resign.

Meesen to Bailey: "Look Dean, I hope you don't take offence to this, but I think you should resign. I think I can speak on behalf of the rest of the playing group when I say that we no longer have any confidence in your ability to coach effectively"...
