when i saw Gumbleton at the champs i wanted him.
Thought the same thing about Hawkins...

Its a hard choice considering both haven't played a AFL match (not including NAB cup) and both are tall players, who usually take a while to develop.

Both have great potential. Hansen has a bit of pace and is a very good contested mark. Gumbleton has very good hands and has a good frame to work with. They both have good skills and are very versitile.

Looking forward to seeing them go head-to-head (pontentially) in the years to come.

If you had had the no 2 pick, who would you have taken?

Hansen for mine. Can play at both ends, courageous and a born leader.
GOD, these sort of comments amaze me - How the **** would you know? And courageous? please, if he actually put his head over the ball last weekend he might not of been laid out - and Johnson wouldn't of been outed....having said that, he impresses me as a player - but a poll? please....born leader? haha, makes me laugh.....

He had his head over the ****ing ball you monkey, go and take a look at the Vic Country vs SA game where he gets knocked out, running back with the flight of the ball.

Hansen does have courage but its nothing Gumbleton doesnt have.
What about Bachar Houli? Given the publicity before hand I'd have thought both he and Gumbleton would've been ripping up the pre season stuff, like Hansen & Selwood (and Thomas pick 53). Or is that just because they went to Essendon?

so North fans are allowed to say Hansen has courage but Essendon fans can't say the same about Gumby:confused:

my god you north supporters are a touchy bunch.

Houli is doing quite well actually, if you had seen his previous 2 games and his intra clubs this pre season you'd know that already. ;)

You can say whatever you like. But it helps to see it at the same time. I know we're talking youngsters here, but I haven't seen Gumbleton yet, seen nothing that tells me Houli is going to be anything spectacular before years of development and certainly nothing that warranted the pre draft publicity, watched Davey at South Adelaide before your mob picked him up and know he aint worth a mid 30's pick in a great draft. Lets just say we're more than happy with Hansen.

Dont describe a few as "North Fans, I've seen Gumbleton play before he was drafted and anyone who says he lacks courage or doesnt have as much as Hansen is kidding themselves. Crashes open packs and backs into them as much as Hansen

I voted Hansen because he can play just about any key position and is just so versatile but both will be superstars
Should have some great duels in the future :thumbsu:

Gumbleton must be injured because the fact he hasn't surfaced in the NAB is surprising. I saw him once in the WAFL and he doesn't lack courage. In fact on a couple of occasions he almost killed himself backing into packs. But from what I saw against Collingwood and Freo I would still take Hansen even being unbiased. My beef is the other draft picks like Houli and Davey who seem to have gotten endless publicity because of what club they went to. Davey isn't even that good. At South Adelaide his biggest trait was his disappearing act.

That's because he's spent the majority of the pre season in cotton wool due to a knee injury, he is only now back to 100%. Very hard to compare both kids after a few months of being in an AFL system, not to mention that only one kid has had a decent preparation up to this point. Im sure both clubs are very happy with their selections, 10+ year kp players are hard to find and i have no doubt both kids will be very good for a long time.

If he's a solid footballer then he'll be a bargain at pick 42, i'm not expecting him to be the next Voss.

, watched Davey at South Adelaide before your mob picked him up and know he aint worth a mid 30's pick in a great draft.
He fills a need as a genuine crumber in the forward line. He allows Monfries and lovett to play more as midfielders and that change to the essendon structure will make us a faster more creative side than last year.

Lets just say we're more than happy with Hansen.
And so you should be, but that doesn't mean bomber fans can't be just as happy in their first pick in last years draft also.

Wait a minute, I thought you hadnt seen Gumbleton play? Or are you back pedalling?

What exactly are you basing your thoughts on Essendons draftees, have you seen both of Essendon NAB Cup/NAB Challenge games out of interest?

They both have stupid courage. Hansen took a mark in the championships that was ridiculous. Got KO'd and stretchered off for his troubles. Gumby floated across every pack and dropped back into heaps more.

I wanted Gumby before the draft, because I saw him play CHF and we needed one desperately. Hansen was described as a defender and played there in the games I saw. But watching him last week live, and watching him closely, his ability to play CHF at the top level is there. Moved to all the right spots and has a massive, massive engine. Smart, great kick, gutsy, hands are sticky and very selfless.

Hansen will be a superstar.

I saw him play a game for Peel Thunder. One game. What I meant was I haven't seen him surface in the NAB cup hence my comment "he must be injured." Ok? But on what I have seen, I'm quite happy with who we took.

Yes I have. And I saw Davey extensively in the SANFL whilst many an afternoon at Noarlunga.
