Dropping Lycett and not selecting Howard for the game against the Roos in 2019.

Despite being red hot favourites, Goldstein obliterates Ladhams, Ben Brown kicks 10 and Nick Larkey kicks 5.

Port misses finals, again.

Selecting 2 gamer Marshall and 9 gamer Howard in the 2017 Elim final whilst leaving Trengove to twiddle his thumbs, only then to have McGovern, Barass, McKenzie and the corpse of Drew Petrie to take 12 contested marks between them in our forward line.
You mean selecting Impey over Trengove. That was the issue.

Pretty much every melt here though is Ken's prior to 2020 thinking:
They're going tall - Play a small and run off them!
They're going small - go small
A tall is injured - replace with a small
A small is injured - replace with a small
I had PTSD flashbacks to high school basketball - drop a tall
I get a crick in my neck looking up - drop a tall
I don't need to justify it I'm the coach (thanks David) - drop a tall

$1,000,000+ in salary cap deemed unworthy of selection that night (Lobbe, Trengove)

We then go out and spend that and more on Rockliff, Motlop and Watts for the 2018 season and beyond.

And we have an enduring reputation for shrewd list management 🤷‍♀️

Losing Trengove and Carlile to injury in the showdown and then replacing them with flankers the following week and getting beaten by a 5/1 underdog Essendon side.
Remember that well as we had a young Tom Clurey running around in the 2’s even though Tom had had previous AFL experience. In his handful of games Tom was quite serviceable. But no - it was a strange Kenny decision

2015, after we had our season ended when the Dogs smashed us at Etihad, we were playing GWS the week after and made 5 changes, but instead of debuting DBJ and Jesse Palmer etc, it was just the same merry-go round of fringe players.

In fairness, Ah Chee came him and got 3 votes.

Every time we selected Aidyn Johnson. But the time we selected him to tag Mcgovern was probably the worst one.

That time we selected Johnson just to tag McGovern

The stupid thing about this is that it actually somewhat worked because McGovern had nowhere near his usual taking a million intercept marks in our back half type game.

Then he went forward and kicked a goal after the siren to win it.

Why do we even bother with this stupid club lol.

A few minutes before the end, McGovern moved down the forward line to go for a late goal. When Hinkley noticed Johnson follow him down, he sent him back to the Port forward line, leaving McGovern on his own.

Johnson tagged Laird once too which went as expected. Can't remember if this was the game that Keath won the Showdown medal, maybe someone can confirm.

The Butcher for Sam Gray against the hapless Lions in what ended up being a 113 point win is the turning point of Hinkley's entire coaching career with us so it's hard to not have that at number 1.
Putting Boak up forward would arguably be a more pivotal moment.

Hate how often this one is brought up. In hindsight it was the wrong call but it was a gutsy call, and it worked for three quarters of the game; had we kicked straight we should have still won even with that awful start.

As a result of this and the backlash we became the most gutless selection panel in the AFL.
Dougal was an inspired selection. He broke the AFL record for spoils in that game. If anyone thinks West Coast's forwards took too many marks it wasn't on Dougal's efforts.

Marshall was a complete non-event for making McGovern accountable though. Trengove being a decent competitive player would've at least done something to curb McGovern's intercepting influence on the game.
