John Butcher dropped for a fat Jarrad Redden who was so poor that he never played another game of AFL football and was delisted at the end of the season
John Butcher dropped for Sam Gray on the eve of what could've been a 100+ point confidence boosting win
Simon Phillips selected after a 4 disposal game in the SANFL
Jake Neade being promoted to the senior side after a 1 goal SANFL game while Dougal Howard after an 8 goal SANFL game was left in the reserves
Xavier Duursma dropped to make room for Cam Sutcliffe to come in and terrorise Lachie Neale
That game against GWS where we dropped Dixon, went in with zero recognised KPF's, and lost by less than a goal with Phil Davis and Nick Haynes taking a billionty intercept marks between them

The Butcher for Sam Gray against the hapless Lions in what ended up being a 113 point win is the turning point of Hinkley's entire coaching career with us so it's hard to not have that at number 1.

Butcher was then leading the Ken Farmer medal after 12 rounds in the SANFL and couldn't get a look in because Ken galaxy brain Hinkley had decided to go small and replacing a small with a tall was impossible for some reason.

Butcher getting 20d 11m 4g in his 2nd to last game, and then being dropped after his last game where we were given an absolute bath against Sydney and he was one of 4 goalkickers, the only tall to kick a goal.

Then he was delisted.

Sack Hinkley

Selecting 2 gamer Marshall and 9 gamer Howard in the 2017 Elim final whilst leaving Trengove to twiddle his thumbs, only then to have McGovern, Barass, McKenzie and the corpse of Drew Petrie to take 12 contested marks between them in our forward line.

Hate how often this one is brought up. In hindsight it was the wrong call but it was a gutsy call, and it worked for three quarters of the game; had we kicked straight we should have still won even with that awful start.

As a result of this and the backlash we became the most gutless selection panel in the AFL.

Basically never picking that dude from South Adelaide whos name escapes me that ended up winning the Ken Farmer that year, whilst Jackson Trengrove lumbered around deep forward most of the year in a display that would've been unacceptable by 1960s standards.

Bett Reddy

Troy Chaplin getting dropped after tearing Nathan Thompson a new one about his 5th game because he didnt want him to get ahead of himself. Didnt play for 13 rounds.

Damon White kicking 3 goals in his 2nd game in 2004, looking a much superior 2nd tall forward option, then gettinf dropped for 2 months the next week, for the same reason.

Had a decent pre season game for us vs the hawks ..
Didn't get a look in poor campaigner

I was fine with this at the time and I remain fine with this. Trengove wasn't a forward's a-hole and Dougal was one of our better players on the night.

There's a few good reasons to sack Hinkley...
