Happy New Year everyone. In a football context I'm sure we're all glad to see the back of 2004. Personally I can't wait for 2005 to start. I'm ever optimistic that we're in a for a good year.

We did very well over the trading and draft period. I while ago when everyone was going the best team lists for 05 I remarked that on paper it looked pretty good. I'm ever optimistic about that. When you disect 2004 and why we fell in a heap you realise that it was a pretty good effort to win the 8 games and that with the improvements we've made to the list, the additional experience of the younger blokes and the natural improvement of the 3-5 year players, it's all marked for a rapid improvement.

I reckon the Chad Morrison deal has been very underated because him coming into the side will have a three fold effect. If he goes to the HBF Johnson can spend more time in the middle, which means Buckley could go forward more. We also just have to get big years our of Tarrant, Rocca, Lonie, Dids and the Clokes.

There's enough Collingwood bashing going on on the other boards isn't there? Is everyone getting really sick of the Carlton supporters taking it upon themselves to get up and tell us about what they think of our list. That loser who thought Houlahan>Johnson showed his true form there.

So, I've expressed my optimism about this year? What does everyone else think? Where would we realisticly expect to finish?

I'm happy to see people saying that we'll be 3-7 or 2-8 in our first ten games, because when we win more than half of them, I'm interested to see their excuses for that.

They'll "be playing over their heads" or "have had a lucky draw" or maybe even "have been the benefactors of some of the worst umpiring I've ever seen". Then there's the final, perennial classic, that I'm sure will be brought up when we're not a bottom 4 side: "Our team had injuries", the very same line that wasn't an excuse for us last year, will be, I'm predicting, used as an explanation of why we beat teams this year.

Collingwood are capable of winning 8 of there 10 games.. we play the following teams..
Bulldogs(MCG) - Win
Adelaide(TD) - Win
Carlton(MCG) - Win
Kangaroos(MCG) - Win
Essendon(MCG) - (WIN)
St Kilda(MCG) - Loss
Fremantle(Subi) - Loss
Richmond(MCG) - Win
West Coast(MCG) - Win
Hawthorn(MCG) - Win
Easily 7 wins, Essendon on Anzac Day will be a very good game.. as they always are, Collingwood will fight hard.. hopefully a win there. St Kilda And Freo.. Not sure we can beat St Kilda.. But we beat Freo over there last year.. im sure we can do it again!.

The key this year is keeping everything under wraps (including Eddie) - take the league by stealth - continuing our fantastic pre-season and having good injury management.

If we keep it together we will wipe out many of the pretenders - Eagles, Demons, Swans..

Hopefully setting us up for a tilt against the big boys - Port, Brisbane, Saints and probably Geelong in the Finals.

PS It is imperative we get a great start considering the draw we have and to make a statement, not to mention get our confidence up. Bring it on!

wow that is a pretty good draw must say, havent really analysed it.

must beat carlton yes, just to put them bak in their place. Essendon we must also beat as they have definitly had the wood over us in recent years.

west coast im not too sure about cause they usually put up a good fight against us here, and have beaten us in recent years in vic, but hopefully we can over come them. fremantle and stkilda arent garanteed losses.

IF we can win 7 or 8 out of the first 10 it'll be a fantastic start, but we'll then run the risk of fading out towards the end of the year. Hopefully mick manages his men to not do so.

I guess only time will tell.

It is a kinder draw, including less Friday night TV spotlights, but then the AFL's equity policy does say it will smooth things out a bit according to how we all stand at the end of Round 15. Then we were 13th; we ended 13th.

Given all that and injuries etc, I predict/ hope we will win 14 games - 56 points - and finish around 5th on ladder if last year's points/rankings are anything to go by. More would be better, but less......
