Happy we lost

Deploreable skills and don't deserve to win if you only play 30 minutes out of 120

What do you mean happy we lost? Did you back Essendon? Sure we played poorly for much of the game, but how can you be happy we lost? Any Carlton supporter that is happy to lose today has obviously got other motivations.

Good reality check but jeez, shows we've got a fair way to go. To be a good team we need to win these types of games. Oh well, it'll come with experience.

Not happy we lost, but every now and again we serve up a game where the skills are so bad we couldnt beat a primary school team.. happy we have that game out of the way.

I'm happy because it brings us back down to earth.. Not with our heads up our asses like they were in the first half.. We should of lost by 80 points and if we had versed a decent team we would of

I"d be happy if we were beaten by Geelong but not the fricken Bummers. I just hate how its the fricken Bummers that have to bring us back down to earth.

If you disagree with that, then yr not a true Carlton supporter, you're a statistical donut.

Come on mate, "back down to Earth". Anyone who makes statements like these seemingly has stuck around and endured that past several years.

We have been on a high because we're winning - understandable.
We were talking of finals footy because we were in the 8 - understandable.

No one thought finals were a sure thing, so get your head out of your ass and don't make such stupid threads.

So you think that the players came out with the same mentality that they had last week? If they just put their heads down asses up and keep the pressure up then there is absoloutely no excuses for losing to these hacks.. Carlton's skills exceed Essendons by a truckload which is easy to see in the half hour we actually played good football... If we were to win today after serving up shit and came out next week the tigers would rape us

You're happy we lost? Are you a Carlton supporter? My wife is an Essendon supporter and she's happy that Essendon won. I am very pissed off we didn't take the game when it was there to be won.

I'm taking the Sherrin down the park to vent my anger on it.

F@#K!

____ off you ____ing idiot.

We got arse r*ped by the umpires today.

There's little the players can do when they are having a crack and the other side keps getting soft ____ decisions that give them goal opportunities.

We were aweful, this is our worst performance of the year, our intensity wasn't up to standard, our accountability was aweful and our ball handling wasn't up to scratch not to mention too many handballs missing targets and hitting the ground and too many kicks missing the mark.

The worst thing was definatly players playing off their opponents and the intensity. We were soft, we deserved a flogging.

So you think Juddy came out with a casual attitude too?

Stop bitching when we lose and grow up!

i said to the missus pre game that i was nervous. everyone always says when its carlton/bombers/pies ames that it doesnt matter where the teams are on the ladder anyone can win.

that's great when you are the lower team, like we have been the past few years, and last week against the pies, but i just had a feeling we'd get rolled today.

This game was Carlton (Skill & Ability) V Essendon (Desire, Motivation and Intensity) And the winner is...

We played like the whole team were out on the town on the piss all night and we expected to walk all over Essendon. Ratten has his biggest challenge of the season and that is dealing with an unmotivated and complacient side.

Thanks Bombers for the reality check :thumbsu:

Nah you are right.

Wasn't the umpires fault that O'HAilpin should have got a free kick but instead a few seconds later Monfries goals from a piss weak decision that then has some of our ____wit supporters saying Carrazzo is giving away goals when he shouldn't have been contesting the ball in the first place instead it should have been in our hands.

Sure we didn't play that well but if we hadn't been crucified by the umpires we'd never have been so far away in the first place.

I think we got a bit ahead of ourselves today and Essendon were able to take advantage of it. I'm expecting us to bounce back next week though its a very different side this year compared to any other year.

thats one decision if wat ur sayin is true then u believe we beat collingwood because of the umpires. they gave fisher a free kick that wasnt there directly in front we scored a goal and changed the momentum of the game. the fact is we didnt win because our skills were down and hille dominated the ruck contests

1) The umpiring affected the margin, not the result.

2) This game goes to show you AFL players are only human, our side wasn't as motivated, hard working and as intense as Essendon.

3) We underachieved, constant skill errors cost us big time.

4) Too many turn overs from short posessions, turning the ball over by handpasses or losing posession of the footy with fumbling are unacceptable at all levels.

5) Unlike the West Coast game and the Port game when we were required to lift our intensity we didn't.

6) Accountability. We played off our opponents and let opponents, key opponents have space. We had a lot of uncontested marks taken on us.

7) Our commitment to go with our opponents wasn't good enough. Essendons short passing was very good and their confidence to kick to leading players all over the ground was very good and we just didn't go with them.

8) Our tackling wasn't as good as it has been this year which I have rated as our most improved aspect this year.

9) As much as I hate to say it Essendon deserved to win, they earnt it and while may not have been the better side were by far the better side on the day, they played finals standard footy and displayed a high work rate and good team effort which we didn't match.

10) We expected an easy game and played like it, they expected a tougher game and put in a great effort to get the jump, we had to stop that, it gave them a sniff of a win and confidence which we failed to squash.

How does Ratten deal with the complaciency, underachieving and poor work rate from this game?
I'd expect a tough week for the players and perhaps a chance for players to get back in the side. Either way this is another learning expierence, I expect Carlton to do something similar that St. Kilda did and let some players know the harsh reality of life as an AFL footballer and what is required.

Harden up & wake up Blues, lets see how we respond next week.
