Harbajahan Singh - who rates him

Even though his action is a bit dodgy, I don't reckon it makes much difference with offies, and he's not as bad as Muralitharan. I generally don't rate offies as anything more than cannon-fodder - blokes that take their wickets by batsmen treating them with contempt and eventually holing out after carting them around the park. How he and Muralitharan get 7 and 8 in an innings is bewildering, I used to rub my hands together in glee when the offies came on.

One thing I've noticed about Harby's big bags of wickets, is that he's cleaned up the tail but not made an impact on the top order. Does this indicate that the top order is playing solidly, or that he gets the easy wickets at the end?
India have been using him very early in their bowling innings, as early as the sixth over I think, so he has had a legitimate crack at all the batsmen.

When you pick up bags of 6, 7 or 8 in successive innings, I don't think you can be regarded as a tail end bowler. Harbhajan has Ponting and Gilchrist totally spooked. And this is the same Ponting who struck gold in Sri Lanka against Murali. I think you're forgetting that early in the innings the ball is still new and it's hard to get much grip or spin on it. Harbhajan was bowling, I think, the fourth over in Australia's second innings.

He's only 20, he's not a chucker, and he deserves a bit of respect.

as i said, i reckon his action is suss.

anyway, i can already see the signs of indian-spinner syndrom shaping in Singh.
The spinner who can destroy teams on India, but couldn't get wickets at the Royal Blind Society out of India.

Perfect example of the IS Syndrome is Anil Kumble.

Just to back up what i said above:

Singh in India, 30 wkts at 27 in 8 matches
Singh out of India, 8 wkts at 38 in 3 matches

thats coming into this test.

Ummmmm WCE2000,

He has played just 3 tests out of India and you are already saying he won't be able to bowl overseas.

Give the guy a bloody chance!

I agree with RogerC. He has just taken 32 wickets in 3 tests against the best team in the world and is still very young. He definitely earns a bit of respect.

Oh well, you are the same person that picked St Kilda for the wooden spoon.

Just imagine if Harbhajan was a 20 year old Australian spinner who'd just come onto the scene and taken 32 wickets in a 3 test series against say..South Africa.
The rest of the world would never hear the end of it from us Aussies bragging about him.
I think it's about time us Aussies stopped rating ourselves so highly and started giving players from other countries some credit.
Saying he's a chucker and only effective in India is just sour grapes from Australian fans who can't bear to see their 'invincible' heroes actually lose a test series.
Give this guy the credit he deserves.

These wristy off spinners - Muruli, Saqlain, Singh etc - display some amazing skills that we haven't got a grip on yet. Saqlain can bowl a googly, a top spinner and a genuine fast ball using finger spin ! Greg Matthews just couldn't figure how Singh could get the ball to jump up for close in catches when all the other bowlers were just trundling in .. and he should have some idea. They have great skills .. and why not.

Remember the reverse swing - came out of Pakistan and was used to york tail enders. Just 'cause these guys aren't WASPs , it doesn't mean they can't revolutionise the game. Doing it overseas is their challange, as it is ours.

As I've said before, Indians take their cricket SERIOUSLY and right now, there'll be 50 million kids all trying to emulate Singh and his action. Out of that, there's bound to be one or two that will go on.

It was a fantastic series, and we showed on the final day , that we can still cut it .. and that's something to build on.

His test will come when India tour overseas next, and will determine if he's a good or great bowler.

But for Harbhajan to totally confuse 2 of Australia's "best" batsmen - Ponting and Gilchrist he obviously has a wonderful talent and will have to rate in the top 5 spinners in the world right now.

Speaking of world rankings, did anyone else hear that Steve Waugh's ranking in Test Batting is dropped from #2 to #3?
