this threads last 24 hours shows where we are headed til august 11 arrives.

constant barrage of denials & attacks from the hirdites, when in fact, and as they themselves point out, swaying public opinion (see BF) means **** all.

its over EFC.

1871 - 2011.

thanks for the memories.

will be interesting to see what they end up doing to that area of napier st once the clubs historical contents are sold off. napier st certainly undergoing a lot of residential redevelopment at present. maybe PEGS will take over the block. theyll have the power to move the bowls club out.

My sons are great grandsons of an Essendon premiership player which is the closest our family gets to football royalty. For this reason I would be devastated if Essendon bought it. This, and my anti corporate win at all costs philosophy is why I'm angry at the Bombers. I don't want them to disappear. I'm really worried that the club is worried more about protecting individuals than 100 years plus of football history. I'm surprised more Bombers fans don't feel the same.

Whoever consumed the "magic blue powder" without explicit understanding of its chemical properties is an incredibly stupid individual. Anti-Doping awareness programs, and all. Show Cause notices are likely arriving soon, and can you afford the $2M fine and draft penalties? Poor governance, lacking a single point of accountability.

Supplement program, much?

Latching on to anything you can.

The fact that Judd said it was like the East German swim team, we just take what we are told, should ... and I say this with not much confidence .... should tell most his tongue was firmly in his cheek.

Carlton are no different to any other club. You don't tell your opponents what your supplements are.

There also seems to be some confusion as to why show cause notices are issued. There has to be some evidence of a banned substance around the club. I'm pretty sure Essendon players did not get show cause notices because they don't know what they took.

The old "tongue in cheek" would certainly have been missed.
Also, were the supplements checked by the club doctor as WADA/ASADA compliant? Were those supplements recorded? Were those questions asked? deleted? When was the vid shot I wonder.
A bit of "cut and paste" work there, just to be able to say "everyone else is doing it"

try living here. there will be many thousands of zombies next year and forever after, shocked at how they were lied to. shocked to be sitting there.

shocked at being so gullible. similar to the stupid buggers sucked in by a nigerian email.

im not talking about your modern corporatised fan. reserved seat at etihad, licence plate, signed hird memorablia on the wall.

im talking about the fan who saw kevin walsh when he was crap, and loved that he came good.
im talking about the fan who knows the 93 side contained 8 players all developed locally in the EDFL, and is proud of that.
im talking about the fan who was at vic park in 84 and saw fish go down with a knee and assumed it was season over.
im talking about the fan who doesnt care if it rains, if its cold, if theyll possibly lose. they still go, if they can afford to.

100 years of history down the toilet to protect the bank balance and ego of people entrusted to guide the club. unfortunately those same people who are the voice of essendon at present are only protecting themselves and their interest, and not the interests of the fans above.

****ing sad but ****ing true.

You reckon it'd take 9 months to come out if it wasn't? I don't know for sure but from my understanding it was said at a private function. Harcourt also stated this and the AFLPA accepted his explanation.

The website pointed to a webcast and the disclosure agreement made it clear you could not prejudice any open investigation.

all they had to do was go to the website and see that it was going to be filmed. governance issues.

Where is Julian Burnside? From Vic Human rights Charter.

10 Protection from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment

A person must not be—

(a)subjected to torture; or

(b)treated or punished in a cruel, inhuman or degrading way; or

(c)subjected to medical or scientific experimentation or treatment without his or her full, free and informed consent.

Surely Burnside will be lobbying for action against EFC given this new bombshell or will passively accepting the program count against them.
you forgot

(d) failing all that, take the money on offer defending the indefensible

Worth noting that an article from Caroline Wilson today suggests that the tests sent to Cologne were related to two players only and were to determine the presence of GHRP6 and not TB4. If true this obvioulsy shoots a hole in the notion that the Cologne tests might support Essendon's claims regarding players having not been injected with TB4.

Regards

S. Pete

His secretary also claims to have taken a transcript from the phone call.
She also said she may have lost it.

Whats been good though is that harcourts wife has been taking notes. She alledges a conspiracy between Essendon and ASADA lawyers have got together to cause this issue, so they can bill more.

Well I have only heard from very cluey people, that Harcourt is very highly regarded in 'those circles.' So hard to believe he is an idiot.

And GM on Dr Peter Harcourt today: ‘it’s his responsibility to care for the health, welfare and safety of players’. Yes. And it's worth remembering that such is also a Club doctor's responsibility ...

LOL

from the supporters who view yaco55 balanced cos he was the first to want hird to never return.

yep thats balanced

Good to see that you remember me - Though Hird's future is not the subject of this thread - Not that its stopped posters in the past - This is like old news for me - After all, I was the one who posted about samples sent to Germany.

In regards to the AFL having suspicions about Essendon back in 2012, I'm of the opinion that they probably did close to all they could. They heard something they didn't like from ASADA, so interviewed James and laid down the law. For one reason or another (the rumour mill) they still had concerns, so requested tests well above what would normally be conducted, which then came back negative. From that point on I'm not sure what else they could have really done. If they didn't have any evidence, just rumours, what should they have done?

The second Vlad was briefed by the ACC though, the whole landscape changed.

I can't recall any "evidence" being mentioned, or anything like that before Essendon self reported. So while the AFL was trying to mitigate damage once Vlad got briefed, I think they probably did close to the best they could before then, in a pre integrity department/rules overhaul time.

Does that all sound reasonable?

Good post.

Surely if the AFL notified Essendon at the time about their suspicions of the supplements program, explained they had sent samples to Germany - That would have quickly closed down the program.
