Why are people taking the easy options? The blokes who I'd be having a right square up about there form would start at the top. If someone tries to tell me that Jobes output is ok are deluded.
Chapman ditto. Goddard was right in my sights until his game tonight whilst Stantons usual mid 20's game won't be enough for him to stay in the side much longer. Dempsey is giving us a similar output to what Browne could give us after an extended run.

The hard decisions are the ones inside the friggin 'best 22' not the supposed "list cloggers" who haven't had a chance to expose themselves at the next level.

Well I'm sold after tonight. Jesus that was a couple of mediocre teams out there. Just really making up the numbers.

This group doesn't have a flag in it. We don't need a complete overhaul, but this group aren't going to do it. They're too far off.

Stanton!? He was one of our best tonight. He's an asset.

Jobe is obviously in decline now, but still a bloody good player.

Cooney and Goddard are out of form but class.

I'd be keeping those four in terms of experienced heads.

Hibberd, Daniher, Merrett Z, Zaka, Bags, Hurley, Heppell, Carlisle, Hooker and Colyer are premiership quality.

Other than them everybody else is up in the air for me. Checked the list too, haven't forgotten anybody. So that's 14 on our list which is nowhere near enough.

Our first priority needs to be elite ball users.

No love for Myers?

7 seasons, over 100 games and I'm still yet to see anything other than glimpses. Sometimes they're extended glimpses, two or three games maybe. But I'm far from convinced he'll be anything more than a decent player.

Chapman
Cooney
Stanton
Fletcher
Howlett

Dempsey
Winderlich
Zaharakis
Pears
Kommer
Hocking
Hams
Gwilt
Giles
J Merrett
O'Brien
Ashby
Kavanagh

How many of these players can we remove within two years?

Yes. I included Zaharakis.

What do you mean by CAN?

Heppell, Hooker, Myers, Hurley, Daniher, Carlisle, Baguley, Colyer and ZMerrett are our best 22 players we need to build around going forward.

It is time to blood the younger players such as Langford, Hams, Orazio, Laverde, Edwards etc. and give them as much exposure as possible for the rest of this year. Continue persisting with Gleeson and encourage him to take the game on. They will be surrounded by experienced players such as Goddard, Watson, Stanton and Cooney.

We need to build through the draft. Get a good pick this year and use it on either an inside mid or a quick outside mid (our depth for both is weak). Offload Bellchambers for something (hell, I'd take a 4th rounder at this point). We are too far back to do something in 2015, we need to bite the bullet and expose our younger players to as much game time as possible. Hopefully the players come back fresh and rejuvenated in 2016 when WADA is laughed out of the CAS

As you can see with Carlton there is a stage in a players career where they are tumbling down the footy cliff and are no longer as effective as they once were. The question we need to ask is do we want to turn into Carlton?

Here's our footy cliff.

Fletcher
Goddard
Chapman
Stanton
Winderlich
Cooney
Dempsey (only 28 so may be able to arest the slide so unlikely at this stage)
Watson - can still play at a very high level.

How many of these guys should be playing each week?

In last nights game against Richmond we were a staggering 2 years older and had 30 games more on average.

I'm not sure a game where one side had a 40 year old and the other had two that are barely eighteen is the best game to be pulling out the average age stat.

We need to make hard decisions at the selection table too. I keep banging on about this but why have Giles there if he ain't going to get a game while Bellchambers has a crack in his knee?

Why not try Melksham as an offensive mid, play Ambrose as the tagger and then bring McKernan in as 2nd ruck?

Why not rotate Kav, Browne and O'Brien through the side? Even if Gleeson, Ashby and the Merrretts are the anointed ones going forward we need to get a look at them all. We also need the anointed ones to have games in the VFL to allow for a heavy training week and/or a more responsible role on match day.

Also, as great as Hurley has been down back it is worth having a look at him combining with Daniher up forward. I'd love to see Daniher as the man inside 50 with McKernan and Bellchambers rotating in support and Hurley pushing high. Ambrose as tagger. In doing that we play Carlisle down back.

I'd also love to see Carlisle combing with Hurley and Hooker down back.

I really think that the first half of this year should have been set up that way. That is throw out the game plan and structures each week and start again for our opponent. Teach our boys to hunt the opposition and to be flexible in their roles. All the while our list managers and coaches get to see them in enough roles to make a long term call on them.

I know it's absolutely silly, but sometimes after a poor showing, I just drop my bundle and think **** this, a premiership is a long way away.
"time to play the kids and sell the farm!" move on anyone 26 and older except Watson and Goddard. Trade for a good young ruck talent.
I am by no means saying we should do this by the way, but it's an interesting theory.

FB: Hibberd, Hurley, Baguley
HB: Gleeson, Carlisle, Browne
C: J. Merrett, Watson, Colyer
HF: Z. Merrett, McKernan, Laverde
FF: Fantasia, Daniher, Langford
Foll: Bellchambers, Myers, Heppell

Bench: Kavanagh, Goddard, Zaharakis, Melksham (Sub)

Hooker as trade bait to snag somebody like Shiel.

I think this year will be the end of Chapman, Fletcher, Winderlich and I think Hams and depending on his season Pears will be moved on.

I also think they need to consider trading some of Zaka, Dempsey, Bellchambers, Stanton, Hibberd.

Than again, I have no idea how this draft is shaping up, so it's a shit draft, it's hard to know what to do.
