List Mgmt. Hard decisions

North Coast NSW. Like I said, only rumour, but they seemed very confident. (and desperate)

I would not be happy unless he was doing it just so he was in prime position to **** them over harder than Mick is now.

I can't see him doing any better than Paul Roos has done at Melbourne.

Strong rumour circulating up this way that he will be announced as MM replacement n the next few days. Absolutely a rumour, but came from 2 different Carlscum supporters up here.
Would be keen to hear if anyone has heard anything in Melb.

**** carlton
Be dumb founded if this were to be true. He's stated on 360 that a rebuild is a big job and that's not what he wants to do.

i heard that rumour on the Footy Feed bit with Matty Thompson chatting to Nick Bowen? but i'd have my doubts Bomber will ever coach again as he stated he wished he never went into EssendonFC soon after announcing he was " Burnt Out " http://www.afl.com.au/video/2015-05-20/rance-race-replacing-mick-and-more

Not quite the way I interpreted what he said.

He's stated on 360 that a rebuild is a big job, Robbo then asked couldn't you do it (or similar), Bomber said yes he could but he didn't think Carlton had the patience to persevere, therefore he didn't think it was for him.

Note: wording may not be word for word, but it is my take on what he said.

I think it is wish full thinking on our behalf that players were back to normal after supplements saga not guilty verdict.

Hird's interviews just really put things in place. "Some players have difficulty sleeping at night". Wow. If you wonder why he doesn't drop players that easily, he was already a coach who cares about how players feel. After this saga I would imagine there will be more of this feeling where he will just trust and stand by them.

That explains our up and downs and at times lack of confidence and authority.

For us fans, though we love the players and feel for what they are going through, but ultimately we are asking for some tough changes which will get us into top 4 and a crack at a premiership.

I believe wholesale' tough' changes won't happen like we are anticipating. It is going to be a slow painful process to turn over the playing list.

Thompson and a patient rebuild would be good for Carlscum ... Oh and I'm pretty sure he grew up barracking for them.

I also agree that it will be hard emotionally to cut the list hard.

Also if Hird doesn't have much of an indication that he's got long in the job he won't be inclined to do it either.

Personally I think the club will make the obvious cuts at the end of this year and top up to go for a flag in next two years and then go hard with a rebuild.

That would mean trading out a gun in his prime around that time too to get some picks. In fact I get the impression the club will just try and turn over the list as it goes.

Retire: Chapman Fletcher Winderlich

Chopping block: Dalgleish, Gwilt, Hams, Kav, NOB, Pears, Stanton (all uncontracted).

Rookie list
Delist: Steinberg.
Upgrade: Mckernan

Also every club bar Carlton will over take us in the next 12-24 months , list wise.

If Hird and anyone else can't be part of making tough decisions then he should not be coach and anyone else who feels too conflicted to make some of these calls should not be in his respective roles.

I tend to agree, but as someone else mentioned The club would feel some sense of responsibility to not delist any of the remaining 34 up against WADA. It's a really tough decision, not just for Hird but the whole club.

Totally agree, that's why the hard decisions need to made at the end of this year.

We already possess the slowest team in the league which forces us to play our high possession, extremely defensive and very predictable style of footy which everyone hates, but in the same breath everyone wants the likes of Stanton ect to play on forever.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.

i disagree, its gonna take atleast 5 years for Carlton to get a good enough list together to be Competitive again or even a powerhouse club, i think if Fletch an Chapman retire at the end of the season, let them go but Fletch is still a good player an probably a life saver on the day to keep him around if he plays in 2016. whereas Chappy i think we could afford to retire him, Licka will deff retire .

with our list we can win a Premiership, just look at some at Hawthorn, aging players like Burgoyne etc that are still playing there Role an being in Premierships

If Fletcher goes on again, we are in serious trouble. How effective is it having a player on the list who won't travel or play every 3rd/4th game?

Fletcher might be 40 but just look at Michael Tuck , he played pretty good footy at that age an 41, he just shouldnt have gone on till he was 42. but ok we dont need Fletch, IMO i reckon if Fletch Retires we could play Carlisle in his spot . Jobe Watson isnt fast but he's still a good handy player to have. Luke Hodge isnt a Fast Player either but still handy to have on the list. , i look back at 2013, the Bombers were in the top4 untill they lost 5 games in a row, they can do that again, the question is, How Hungry are the players, you have to have the Hunger to win, just like Hawthorn does

but look at Geelong before 2007? they were a Crap Team, Bomber almost lost his job in 2006. 2007 they came out an won the flag an almost in 2008 an won it again in 2009

It's ideal. Every four weeks a next gen player gets an opportunity to come in and prove that he is better than Fletch. Every four weeks the player fails to do so and our team remains stronger for it. They can't get past him because he is freaking good! Strange to say it, but he seems underrated on this board.
You might argue that the incoming player needs continuity to establish himself in the team, but if you are playing superb footy in the VFL and getting an opportunity at AFL level once a month, then i think that is ample opportunity to show the club where you are at. Fact is that there simply hasn't been anyone at his level in the last couple of years. There is no one i want ahead of Fletch right now... Ashby is pushing but not there, Gleeson is looking more like a mid.

I don't think we are slow if we have both Colyer and Cooney in the current side. We definitely need Dal or Edwards to come on as a replacement for Cooney though. People get obsessed with speed, but you really just need the balance. There is zero problem with Watson, Myers and Heppell on the inside feeding the ball out to Colyer, Cooney and Zaka. Then you have Stanton having run the extra mile to provide a link.
Go in too small and fast and you will get out muscled.

How can a next gen player prove himself in 1 or 2 games? That is no where near ample opportunity.
