List Mgmt. Hard decisions

How can a next gen player prove himself in 1 or 2 games? That is no where near ample opportunity.
One game out of every four would be enough, plus filling in for any other injuries in the back line. Fact is no one has been near enough the mark to play the fill in role consistently or to even hold out Gwilt!

Please explain how one game in every 4 is ample opportunity?

Retire: Chapman Fletcher Winderlich

Chopping block: Dalgleish, Gwilt, Hams, Kav, NOB, Pears, Stanton (all uncontracted).

Rookie list
Delist: Steinberg.
Upgrade: Mckernan

Considering his pre-season form, and the lack of run we've had, Dalgleish probably would have played in the firsts by now if he hadn't been injured. And completely disagree regarding Hams. Deserves an extra year.

If Hird and anyone else can't be part of making tough decisions then he should not be coach and anyone else who feels too conflicted to make some of these calls should not be in his respective roles.

I was just going to edit but the new point is quite different.

I did not sign up to be a member this year to make the wronged players feel better about themselves. I am sick of being shit. If the club feels bad it should compensate the players financially and be done with it.

I've never entertained the idea of not supporting Essendon but if we become a basket case on the back of the supplements saga I reckon I will start to re-assess.

Well given Pears has been injured so much and has no form over the past 2-3 years, Stein is a plodder and Gwilt is 29 and our first choice replacement, not sure who Fletch is keeping out of the team.

Where is the Alex Pearce on the list?

How have we seriously gotten to the point that there is no decent long term option that can grow with the rest of the spine to form a combination with for the next 10 years? Of itself it is a minor mismanagement but it reflects a what is quite clearly a general attitude which I think borders on delusional.

TBF, it was Pears a few years back (and you never know, he might get another run at it), then Ashby came on last year and probably shored up the future concerns... Gwilt was the stop gap.

Well if the VFL form is outstanding and you get 6 games a year covering for Fletch and say another 2 filling in for other injuries, then i would say 8 games over the course of a year is ample opportunity. The issue is that the challenging player basically needs to show that they are ready to play at the standard of Fletch and those sort of players don't come along that often as we know!

In the last 18 months, I've seriously considered moving teams. Luckily my heart is strong for my beloved Bombers.

On one hand everybody wants us to build for the future, on the other they want Carlisle dropped because he's in shit form

Funny board

Possibly because no-one can tell the direction the club is going in?
I don't think Carlisle should be dropped (he does need to do more), but can understand why some may want him to have a trot in the magoos
.
If the club comes out and tells us that our focus is on the future and we are growing a team to compete 3-5 years from now then he , JD and every other youngster that is 75% ready plays and we can probably all live with the growing pains if it looks like the club is staying the course. If they say that we are looking to compete now, recruit guys like Chappy to "put us over the top, etc" then people will question some of the strange decisions being made and why guys are playing who potentially shouldn't based on current output for a 'competing' club.

We're competing for a top 4 spot so says the club. :drunk:

7th two years in a row, recruited Chapman, Cooney, Gwilt and Giles whilst retaining Winderlich and Fletcher.

We're going for top 4.

We don't get there, it'll be time to take stock. But I don't think you change tack mid season.

Injuries have hurt us so far this year, it's still early though and we're in reasonable if not great shape.

I would love to know what the club has in store for numerous players come the end of year. Face palming has become a very common ability this year watching us play. Let's be perfectly honest, our form is downright horrendous. To be considered a threat/chance we have to beat teams such as North & Collingwood at the least and sure as **** not fall over the line against a team like St Kilda.

Everyone talks of Carlton's rebuild, hell, we're pretty much in a similar boat, particularly if we think we can keep up with the GWS, Sydney, Bulldogs et al over the next few years. Fact is, they've well and truly gone past us.

I shudder to think what is to come. At this rate we'll be the new Richmond.

We've scraped into the finals just 3 times in the last 10 years (7th last year, 8th in 2009 & 2011), only to have been bundled out straight away each time - (thrashed by 10 goals++ plus twice!!)
Anyone who thinks we are top 4 material this year is dreaming.....

Pears hasn't been an option for 2 to 3 preseasons.

Ashby, to replace Fletcher? Do you know who Alex Pearce is?

And the Asada bs hasn't helped the amount of mental stress the players have been under has aged them 10 years.

Top 4? We may be in the most even season to date and haven't woken up to it yet. GWS beating Hawthorn. Dogs beating Sydney. Lions thrashing Port. We may be around the mark at the end of the season and it might surprise what other teams may be around the place too. (and the teams that fall out).

Thee biggest consideration is the other stuff that's going on and how that will affect the players.

yaco55 could remember this but in the last 3 years all I've wanted was;

- an inside midfield bull
- a ruckman
- two kpp
- marking forward (see Langford/Laverde)
- at least two outside speedsters

Now, it's pretty much what everyone is suggesting they want.

Spot on.

We need to pick 10 players in the next two drafts - recruit well and you may get 7 players.

With so many untried players, I don't think it's completely necessary. Nailing one draft (4 AFL quality players) is essential

It is necessary - Fletch/Chapman/Winderlich are gone this year - probably Giles and Gwilt in 2016 - And add Pears/O'Brien/Kavanagh/Edwards etc and we need replacements.

The biggest concern for me is that we're becoming like Richmond have been in the last 5 years. They have taken solid conservative picks with their first (except for inexplicably passing on Heppell) and picked up a journey man or two every year who immediately fill a roll, Hampson being the exception. NOB, Kav, J Merrett and these guys seem decidely fringe to me.

Regards Bunk's more positive outlook, when are Hocking and Myers back? Can we expect much from them this year? I agree with you that the club was having a crack this year and next, but if we aren't pushing deep into September this year we won't be winning a flag next year. There will be a bit of a drop off after that and GWS will be unstoppable.

If we have room in the cap I hope we chase Dagerfield this year. I would rate us next year if we keep our backline together, TBell finds form and somehow we make the forwardline function then having the speed and power of Danger at the stoppage works with Myers, Watson, Heppell and Hocking. Really need Laverde and Langford beating that door down. I've got a real feeling about Laverde.

Anyways I'm really torn. Either way I want the club to shed a fair bit this year
