Run from behind and 2-3 player overlap is the backbone of the best offensive sides and the proof will be in the pudding when either WC or Hawthorn salute on the first Saturday in October.

I was going to reply to this post earlier, but I think we miss Marty Mattner, we never really replaced his run off half-back after he was forced to retire as a result of his injuries. It was something we missed last year as well. With Shaw now gone it's something we'll have to address.

It is nearly the number 1 KPI these days

In the context of what has happened and the part your club played - I am not really interested in semantics.

Agreed. West Coast & Freo supporters have been a major part in all of it but it all started with them and any supporter of this club or Adam Goodes should never forget it. I despise them as a football club and every shit stained supporter who follows them.

Opposition posters: this is not the place for you to give your take on the treatment of Adam Goodes. That is all.

Even if we had some ups and downs this year, I'm still very positive about next year. And to be fair no matter how the AFL try and interfere with the game, this has easily been the most even competition for years. Anyone on there day could win

I can't seriously believe you would state that a year where we finished top four was a hard year. Try being a Carlton supporter right now. Try being a Richmond fan over the past 30 years. How about being a Swans fan through decades of mediocrity at the hands of an unfair zone system in the VFL?

Were there some challenging events? Sure, but threads like this make me start to agree with some of our biggest detractors that we are spoilt and fair weather supporters. I would hate to read this board if we go bottom four for five years in a row.

Try following the club through the lead up to the move to Sydney, or the early 90's.
This season while frustrating with all the distractions and injuries , Sydney were still competitive enough to be in the finals.

Been fortunate enough to not be born during the really horrible years. I did fall out of footy between 07-11 but I fell out of a lot of things then. So no. Supporting this year has been amazing. 2012 was amazing. 2013 was good. 2014 was fantastic and so has this year Some off field things sure have sucked but for me? I got to go to Sydney for the first time and see my team play live. I got to be apart of the 3rd quarter, 7 minute cheer for Adam Goodes. Would rather have seen him play but it's still something special for me.

This year has been great.

Only the injuries in the finals and Goodes/Shaw retiring soured it for me. Otherwise 16-6 and seeing a bunch of new kids coming on was great. Very positive about next year. Even getting to a GF means pretty much everything has to go right. We had our backs to the wall this year and we fought hard, particularly against Freo and we were unlucky not to win a home prelim. The Bloods spirit is still alive.

- Our onfield performance - If someone had said you'll finish somewhere in the top four with 16 wins, would you have taken it? The Swans have bettered that just once in their entire history: 17 wins in 2014. Maybe you went into the season with unreasonably high expectations, expecting just to dominate again and win the flag. I notice people talk on this board about Hawk fans with a sense of "entitlement", but maybe you're guilty of the same. Footballers aren't machines. You had a super year in 2014 (with that unfortunate let-down at the end.)

If only it was that easy every year. They say it takes a heap of luck (and good planning) to reach the Grand Final. All you can really ask is for your boys to keep knocking on the door with top four finishes and hopefully, the breaks go your way a few times when it matters (and for your close rivals to get the shitty bad luck.) That's how every premiership is won. It's always been that way. It's a game of attrition.

- Our gameplan - same as above. The gameplan was good enough to get your team back to another top 4 finish with 16 wins (just 1 win away from top spot.) Despite all the problems you experienced with injuries and good players down on form, your game-plan enabled you to contend for another flag. I wouldn't go overboard blaming the coach. John Longmire's results speak for themselves. Four successive top four finishes and a yearly expectation of reaching the Grand Final. Name another Sydney coach who has managed to achieve that.

Much as I hate to agree with a Hawks supporter, you're right. We are a spoiled bunch. We forget the dark days. We expected to bounce into our 3rd GF in 4 years and redeem 2014. We have a coach who is consistently getting us into top 4 finishes (=GF chance) yet we moan, want to ditch the coach, criticise the 'quality' of our wins, call our game style boring (hark back to 2005) and endlessly criticise our players.

It's group hysteria. So thanks for slapping us collectively in the face.

Memories of Leo Barry, Marty Mattner and Rhyce Shaw all bolting the ball out of defence, backing themselves and taking them on at all costs.

No way its a hard year

But harking back to how spoiled we are and the bad old days, who cares. We should strive to win every year and be the best club in the league

We took a premiership side, added two players who became our two highest paid players and have seen more players leave than come along, more holes open than be filled, scoring going down

Lets not pretend we matched anyone decent this year, we have built a middle of the road club with salary cap pressure, it could get worse before it gets better if we are honest

It worked so well because we were unpredictable.

Barry, mattner, shaw

2 big things in common imo

1- took the game on
2- hard nuts

Barry couldn't even predict himself. I'd have hated to sit in the passenger seat while he drove through traffic. Did he ever, even once, go back and kick over the mark ?

Speed too. Shaw and Mattner blistering pace

You seem like a great person, but your away , not watching live footy. Our game plan is negative, we need to keep forwards at home, we need to attack !
I am allowed to have a crack at a wasted year, 1 game off a Prelim, 1 year away from sitting next to the rats cheer squad and fwitw I will continue to bag who or what ever I want and that's another flag.

When did I say you weren't welcome to your opinion ? I was just expressing mine. Despite the odd jape, I have nothing but respect for you Bedders, regardless of whether I agree with you. Enjoy your off-season. Hopefully next year we get that flag.

Not the hardest year. But the year I lost the most respect for the game itself.
