Well done on a great career Greg...

The number of times you left us dazzled with your footy nous & skill shall be remembered forever.

:D

Seriously though, if he had managed to get over his injuries, he could have been a decent player.

As far as I can see.. if you're referring to wce.com.au that is, that there is no mention of Greg Harding.

The top story is about Chick.. ?

Injury-plagued West Coast Eagles defender Greg Harding today announced that he would retire from AFL football.

The popular half-back, who played just nine games in two seasons with West Coast because of serious ankle problems is still hopeful of playing with WAFL club Claremont, but conceded his body could not contend with the rigours of AFL competition.

“When I joined West Coast I was looking for a new beginning and hoping to get a few years of injury-free football,” Harding said. “Unfortunately that didn’t happen and I’m really disappointed that I have had to retire.

“Probably for the last three or four years I have been playing with injury and I have needed injections to get me through. The doctors have told me that there is basically no chance of being 100 percent fit again or even fit enough to compete at AFL level.

“Initially I thought I could prove them wrong, but I have been to a number of specialists who all said I was kidding myself. I might have played with injury on occasions when I shouldn’t have, but as a player you just want to get out there.

“If I had kept going I would only have let down the club and myself. Hopefully I can go back to Claremont and play where the intensity is not so high.”

Harding, 26, hails from Albany club Royals and was recruited to Claremont where he made his senior debut in 1995. He was then secured by Fremantle, in that club’s second season, where he played 69 games before crossing to West Coast.

The West Coast Eagles are keen to explore avenues that would keep Harding involved at the club.

For much of his career Harding suffered from injury problems, his horrific run starting with a sickening collision with St Kilda star Stewart Loewe late in the 1997 season and culminating with serious ankle problems with West Coast.

In 2001 he damaged his left ankle, played out the season and required surgery just before Christmas. He was five weeks into his comeback with Claremont when he developed stress fractures in his right ankle and tore ligaments off the bone.

He did not play a senior game this year.

LOL, I guess I had better change it. Thankyou God, miracles can come true.

But it was so much fun bagging the crap out of him. It was therapeutic even.

Seriously though, if he managed to get over his injuries, he could have been a CRAP player at WAFL level.

If he even thinks of playing for South Fremantle, I will be very angry.

He can play for any team with Fremantle in it. But the article stated he wants to go back to Claremont.

It's always a bit sad to see a player retire because of injury, and especially at a fairly young age at 26.

Good luck to him. He was a good young player at the Dockers, one of the best in the early years, and he's just been really unlucky with horrific ankle injuries.

I hope he can continue to walk for the rest of his life without pain and that things go well for him.

Tough game, footy.

You always know the club has asked the player to move on if they say they are hoping to play WAFL next year.

Pity he wasn't able to produce his best football with us through injury, form, skill? Hope life goes well for him after football.

Re Metro

Heard George( I love Freo) Grljusich announce with great glee this morning that Metro would announce his retirement before the 11.00 deadline today. The AFL will look VERY closely at the deal Freo and Metro have come up with.
